I’m worried about having my train track brace taken off, can I have some reassurance?

June 29th, 2012
Q.

Hi, I can’t quite believe it’s been two years since I had my brace on but in 3 weeks time I’m getting them off. However I’m a bit worried about the process, a few of my friends have said that it really hurt when they have to grind the cement of my teeth. I’m probably been silly but I was just trying to read up about it, could you tell me a bit more about how they take the brace off? It’s a normal train track one. I’ve not been very brave throughout my treatment to be honest, always worrying and crying 🙁 I didn’t have to have any teeth out before I had it on, if I would of had to I don’t think I would of got a brace. Hopefully it will be okay, but I’d love some reassurance 🙂

I am allergic to nickel, what brace options do I have?

June 8th, 2012
Q.

Dear Adam, I’m 22 years old and I really want a brace. The only thing is I’m allergic to the nickel that they use in the traditional braces in the NHS, I get very bad blisters when coming into contact with this, i can a number of different allergies, it’s a nightmare! I cannot afford expensive private orthodontic treatments. So I was just asking if there are cheaper braces that don’t have nickel in them? I also wanted to ask what the elastic bands were for, I have seen a few people with them stretching from the top to the bottom of the jaw? Thanks you for your time!

My train track brace is causing a lot of mouth ulcers, is this normal?

June 8th, 2012
Q.

Hello Adam, I was wondering if you could help me. I have recently (3 weeks) had a train track brace put on, My dentist said It would take some getting used to but over the last few days I have being getting a lot of ulcers on my gums and tongue. Is this a normal experience or could I have picked up an infection? Are there any creams or gels available? I’ve tried bongella but this doesn’t seem to work? I was thinking as I haven’t been eating a lot of solid food due to pain from my brace, this could be a cause, but just wanted your advice, to see if there was anything to be concerned about? Many thanks!

Are lingual braces a good choice for straightening crowded front teeth?

June 8th, 2012
Q.

hello

what is your opinion on lingual braces for straightening really crowded teeth? I really like the idea of them, but i would like to know if there are as successful as normal fixed braces attached to the front of the teeth? My crowding is mainly around the front of my mouth and I just wondered is it likely that I will have to have some teeth removed? I would prefer if i didin’t but beggars can’t be choosers can they!!

many thanks for your time on this matter

After having my brace off, I stopped wearing my pre-finisher and my teeth have become slanted. Can I still wear it if it fits?

April 19th, 2012
Q.

Hi, It has been five years since I took off my braces, I was given an appliance called pre-finisher. I wore it for about two weeks but then stopped as I had college and found it not practical to wear. However my teeth have gone slanted since I stopped wearing them and my smile looks bent. I just wanted to ask that after five years of not wearing them, they still fit in; I was wondering if I should start wearing them again after this long gap? or would that not be beneficial and cause them to go even more slanted? I always wanted to mention that now my jaw clicks which I have not had before braces. Please advise me as to the best way to go about this problem.

Many Thanks!

I received my orthodontist referral too late and have incurred a charge. What should I do?

April 19th, 2012
Q.

I have a big problem with my teeth, I hate smiling because theyre are just too many teeth in my mouth. They are all out of line and since I was 12 Ive been told I would need braces. In 2009 at the age of 17 my dentist referred me to an orthodontist but I never heard anything or received a letter. I have always asked about it but the dentist has fobbed me off so when I went in 2 weeks ago I complained and insisted that they investigate why I heard nothing. I lost my job recently and am currently on jobseekers allowance. I got a letter yesterday stating I have been referred to the orthodontist I was supposed to have been referred to in 2009 but now I am 19 they are insisting I pay a non-refundable £55 cost for my first consultation which I cannot afford. I was wondering how I should go about explaining that my dentist was supposed to have referred me almost 3 years ago. I absolutely hate my teeth and smile so would appreciate some professional help. Thankyou

What would be the best system to fix concave shapes on the sides of my arch?

April 11th, 2012
Q.

Hi Adam, I have thought about braces for some time now as my upper arch has a sort of concave shape to from my premolars to my the teeth behind my canines like a ‘n’ with collapsed sides sort of thing. I want to know whether or not a brace can sort this out and what would be the best type of brace to use should I have the option? as a secondary thought I would like whatever system to be the quickest possible, just incase that changes anything. thank you for taking the time to read this.

Can I have traditional metal braces to close gaps and correct my bite?

April 4th, 2012
Q.

hi Adam, I have few gaps between my teeth and i would like the old style metal braces, the bottom row of my teeth is fairly straight and neat enough. I sometimes have this funny feeling when I am swallowing, my jaws feel like hey are dislocated. I havent been o my dentist as I dont feel she is very helpful or even care to be honest. Roughly how much would it cost and how long will I need to wear them for?

What are the two best alternative brace treatments to conventional braces?

March 30th, 2012
Q.

Hi there sir. Both me and a friend are in a position whereby we need braces. He has already had a few appointments outlining the procedure and things like that for a set of traintracks. I don’t want train tracks and have been looking for alternatives that will be quicker. We have been debating with each other for some time now as to whats the best method, i imagine this does vary from person to person but in general, if train tracks are so widely used is it because they are better than alternative appliances? for instance I have been looking a lot at the damon and the incognito as my favourite two options?? thank you Dr, for your time and input
