A bone in my food pulled my wire and may have pulled my tooth, what issues surround pulling wires?

October 13th, 2011
Q.

the other day I went for an Italian with a few friends and have BBQ ribs, one of the bones (which I didnt know was even there!) got caught in my wire and pulled, I could feel this pulling sensation on my tooth straght away but thought it was just a reaction- like poking it or something, but three days later and the pain still has not alleviated- mild as it is. it’s not show stoppingly bad its just that I can feel it and know it doesn’t seem right. what I wanted to know was whether something like this could do any damage. the rib bone got right behind the wire then pried it as I bit. the wire didnt break and im worried its pulled my tooth and set progress back months. If its dome damage how severe would you say this could be without seeing it yourself. cheers

I have ridges on my teeth around my braces, what are they, will they damage my teeth?

October 13th, 2011
Q.

Hello, a few months after having my fixed braces put on i noticed some bumps/ridges on my teeth above or below some of the brackets which look like they’re made of a tooth type material. i have now had them on for around one and a half to two years so i believe they should be coming off fairly soon for which I cannot wait. however, I’m really scared that when my braces come off that i will have noticeable bumps on my teeth or that they are damaged, will this need more treatment?

My little brother has problems with bad breath and is due for braces. What can he do?

September 21st, 2011
Q.

Hi, my little brother has a really bad problem with bad breathe, he’ll clean his teeth, floss and use mouthwash and then 15-20 minutes later he’s breathe starts to smell really badly again. He currently uses chewing gum to cover it up but when he gets his braces next week he was told that he wasn’t aloud gum as it damages the braces? do you have any advice that i could pass on to him because i think he’s worried about having bad breathe and people thinking its because of his braces? thank you

My teeth have began to move after I had brace treatment. Can I get treatment on NHS?

September 21st, 2011
Q.

I have a question regarding my situation.
I was fitted dental braces (traditional wired braces) through the NHS 6-7 years ago, and at the time I was 11-12 years old. I had 2 upper pre-molar teeth removed from each side. After having braces for 2 years, the braces were removed. I was instructed to keep wearing the “clear plastic braces” for 1 year regularly. In fact, I carried on wearing the clear plastic braces for 2-3 more years (to the point the ends started cracking and breaking off). I stopped wearing them, and now, around 2-3 years on, I am worried because my upper teeth are spreading out severely, causing a gap between my front two teeth. My teeth seem to be in worse alignment than they were before the treatment. When I put on the clear plastic braces now, my teeth and my gums hurt so much I cannot bear the pain. I have told my dentist this problem a few years ago, and he made me some new clear plastic braces which do not work as the moulds were taken of my teeth when they were already spreading. I am now 18, and I am wondering whether there are any ways of me receiving treatment (i.e. get braces) through the NHS? Thank you for your time in considering my question, I would appreciate it if you could answer my question.

I have an open bite. Can I get simple single arch braces to fix the problem?

September 21st, 2011
Q.

I had braces for nearly 4 years when I was young. Although my teeth had straightened they were not completely straight and I still had an openbite when I had them removed. Now my canines (I think) on the bottom row are moving down creating more of a gap. The only places where my teeth bite and where I can actually tear food is in the exact middle of my front teeth and molars. In a sense my canines are useless.
My top teeth are better but not perfect. I feel slightly cheated being told that the gap would close when I grow older, and that my elder sister who also had braces has now perfect straight teeth.
Is it possible to just get braces for one row of teeth and would the cost be different?

Wisdom teeth has resulted in crowding of teeth. What are my options and the costs?

September 21st, 2011
Q.

Hi, Iam a 27year old female and hope you can help me. My teeth were straight up until i had my two kids, and whilst I was pregnant my wisdom teeth came through and my mouth got rather overcrowded and my once straight teeth went crooked. Its mostly my front teeth that hav started going to the side. What braces do you think would be best and how much am I looking at? or are traditional fixed braces still the cheapest? thanks so much for your time

I want to have the same nice straight teeth and would want to know how much it cost and where exactly a good dentist who will give me a good smile. One more thing, I am just wondering are there some foods which cause this or do teeth just go crooked by themselves. I get so annoyed and upset when i can’t laugh or even sing in church without covering my mouth up. i really really need help

What can I do to make my overgrown gums recede?

August 23rd, 2011
Q.

I have had braces for a year, even though i brush my teeth I haven’t flossed enough as i found it difficult. My gums have become compressed and protrude between my teeth. and now, when I do floss assiduously I cannot seem to make them recede. when my braces are taken off in a half year or so, they will look rather foolish, and Im wondering what I can do to repair the situation? I have no doubt you understand what Im talking about, as my doctor said this is a common occurence.
Thanks
