Are my braces progressing as they should?

December 23rd, 2011
Q.

Hi, on Saturday I got my top braces (I’ll be getting the bottom ones later) and my 2nd premolar on the left side (the last tooth with a bracket) has descended a bit, which makes it impossible to bite down on that side, since only that tooth touches the jaw teeth. It is also the most sensitive tooth, I think I might be able to chew more solid food already if it wasn’t for that one tooth. Is it normal and should I just wait until my next consultation (about a month from now) or was it not supposed to happen? If it just sore and I’ll be able to chew with it soon?

Also, my dentist mentioned something about extracting teeth. I’m not sure she’s planning on extracting some or just thinks it’s a possibility, but I don’t have any overcrowding, I just need to fix an overbite and correct my arch. I will probably take my wisdom teeth out, wouldn’t that make room for these adjustments?

Thank you.

Can orthodontics work for me?

December 23rd, 2011
Q.

hi, as a teenager i had a brace however my teeth are still very uneven & due to the way my two front teeth came through the bottom of them are also uneven,i suffer from a lot of mouth ulcers around the sides of my tounge for at least three weeks out of each month, they are very painful especially as they catch on my crooked teeth, this is something that has upset me now for as long as i can remember. I have briefly looked into brace treatments as I hated my braes and that’s one treatment I won’t be having! I have had to rule out the lingual braces for my tongues health, could you help please I need a brace thats just not intrusive at all. thanks

What orthodontic treatment should I have, and should I have my teeth whitened first?

December 20th, 2011
Q.

Hi Darsh I have decided that I want ot have a brace to sort out my crooked teeth. my teeth are not that bad and nobody had ever noticed them, they don’t bother me to much but I have now saved up what should be more than enough to have treatment. I am now considering what brace to have and am stuck between the hidden lingual ones the Damon braces and the invisalign but I’m told that you cant have these on both rows of teeth so I may not be able t have them. What I want to know though is whether or not it would be a good idea to have my teeth cleaned/whitened before having a brace so that the effects of a brace are lessened over the course of treatment or is this something you would not recommend?

I think my dentist is an idiot, he’s done nothing for me what do I do about my teeth now?

December 20th, 2011
Q.

Hi there, let me explain a little about my teeth: I was lucky enough to have all my teeth come in straight, however I never liked my front teeth because they were never completely vertical. They have always been at somewhat of an incline which makes me not like my smile. I was told by an orthodontist that this problem could be corrected and so I got full braces on my top and bottom teeth for two years. However I think this guy was an idiot because having braces did nothing to correct the problem. My front four teeth are still at an incline and they are above the rest of my teeth. Is there anything that can be done?

I am having problems with my very recently fitted lingual brace, what can I do about it?

December 20th, 2011
Q.

Hi there, I had Lingual braces fitted three days ago (so far i have just had the brackets fitted to the bottom of my teeth) and it is extremely painful as my tongue is rubbing on them creating ulcers and making it extremely difficult to speak and eat. Is this normal and is there anything i can put over the bracket to smooth it over until the pain goes? Will it become less painful as i just read that someone has had them in for two months and its still no better! My job involves presenting and i literally cant speak at the moment. Also, im paying £7,000 – is this a usualy price for them?

I had a bad reaction to a tongue piercing with the bar being metal, will a brace give me the same issue?

December 20th, 2011
Q.

hello Darsh. I have an issue that I think may stop me getting a brace but I am not sure. I have had my tongue pierced which gave me a lot of problems. the pierced site got infected and the bar had to be removed at hospital where they suggested there was nothing unusual about the piercing site and that they thought the infection was more a reaction to the metal from me so not an infection that was brought about by malpractice or poor hygiene around the site. I am now worried that- being metal also that a brace will have the same effect? I initially wanted a lingual brace but quickly rubbished it as it would again be on my tongue and I’m not sure what the deal is with a tongues health if it gets two infections in such quick succession? do you think I would be OK to have a traditional brace on without having any issues? I will strongly value your opinion, thanks

I am unhappy with alignment of my teeth after maxillofacial surgery and braces. What can I do?

December 19th, 2011
Q.

I had maxillofacial surgery on upper and lower jaw as weel as rotation of the lower jaw in order to correct a protruding lower jaw. The surgery seemed to be successful but after I had my braces removed I am not happy with the inclusion of my teeth. It seems that when the jaw are in a biting position the frontal incissors are angled out and they are resting on the top of my bottom lip. Although my orthodontist is ensisting that the gap is 3mm it feels to me that the gap is bigger than it should be. In additing the teeth line between the two front incissors is not in the centre of the face but it tends to be more towards the right hand side of the smile. As I mentioned earlier my orthodontist is ensisting that the teeth are perfect and they do not need any further work. What do you think I should do?

I am currently wearing Damon braces but have chipped my tooth. Will I need to have my brace off?

December 16th, 2011
Q.

Hi I am now in a very unfortunate position whereby I have a set of Damon braces that Ive been wearing for around three months. I’m not massively keen on them being there but they have to be and they are better than some alternatives I know. the issue I have is that at weekend I fell really badly coming outside with the shopping, upon doing so I have managed to chip my front tooth! I was in absolute agony like I never have been before. the tooth is now causing problems as its very sensitive, even to cold air being breathed in, I have to manage my breathing through my nose all the time. it looks a mess and if foods catch it it can be quite sensitive, Im worried it may have knocked my brace, though it doesn’t look like it. I need this tooth seeing to desperately but wanted to seek assurance/direction, will I need to have the brace off or will they be able to carry out the necessary if so what are the costs involved in removing the brace? thank you

What should I avoid eating and drinking when wearing Lingual braces?

December 16th, 2011
Q.

How do, I’m 40 and have just had a Lingual BRACE to close the gaps I have between MY teeth. I’d like to say they are a cracking job and although right now i talk like a wallop (im told this will go) I think they’re brilliant I didn’t know they could do thing’s like this with braces. I have a good social life, one of the main reasons I opted for the lingual over the traditional brace and wondered if there would be any issue that could arise with these brace things that could affect this pal? Am I OK to go out on the lash on weekends or does the brace forbode me from doing so (beer on the braces?) beer aside is there any other foods or drinks that I cannot have not just the obvious sticky ones or whatever but acidic types? could you please shed some light on situation, cheers boss

I lost my retainer so my teeth have relapsed, can I still have braces on the NHS?

December 16th, 2011
Q.

Hello! I used to have braces but I lost my retainers and my teeth went back to normal, But I would really like to fix my teeth and I was wondering how much would it cost for me to get braces? I am 16 years old and I am still in education will I have to pay? And if so can you give a rounded guess of how much it would cost. I have a gap and an overbite the rest of my teeth are practically nice it’s just the big gap in my two front teeth and my overbite sticks out. I was told before that I have an extra piece of gum in between the gap and that was what caused the gap apparently. So yeah roughly how much do you think it would cost me? Because it was done by the NHS before. thank you!
