Hi Doctor! I am currently in the process of straightening my teeth with orthodontic braces. I am 25 years old and my problems started when my dentist established that I clench my teeth when I sleep. I am have a malocclusion which the braces are sorting out well. I have four teeth which have receeded and I’m worried about them. Would you be able to let me know how much it would cost in the uk to have a gum graft completed?. Does the cost include just one tooth or would they work per site. I would need at least four gum grafts, and just wanted to know a realistic quote. Also would you be able to recommend any one for such a procedure. I am just worried that I have spend a substantial amount of money to have the brace and would like the receeding gums to be treated. Would it be best to have the gum graft once the brace comes off? Kindest regards

How much does gum grafting cost?
December 16th, 2011Would braces help with front tooth at top of mouth that is sticking out?
December 16th, 2011Hello, i am wondering if it is possible to get a brace or something that i could have put in to help my tooth at the front of my mouth, the two front teeth at the top of my mouth one of them is slightly sticking out and it really gets me down, if this is possible and if so how much would it roughly be? And is this something i would be able to get through the NHS or would i have to go privately? If i do go privately is it metal braces my choice? what kind of difference is there between the two other than cost?

How safe is it having orthodontics abroad?
December 14th, 2011I have been thinking about getting braces but cannot afford the lingual ones I want in the UK. What is the status on having orthodontics abroad now because I figure a lot of dentist go abroad to train and join groups etc. yet you so often hear horror stories about receiving treatment abroad. is it simply that people sill dont trust foreign clinics or is there a genuine concern with going abroad. if you can save money in the process then how can it be a bad thing? Im not saying this is what im doing and not listening to anything else, im trying to find out what’s best and consulting people in the know like yourself. what would you recommend on the subject?

After making the mold and photos he advised to extract 2 premolars each from upper and lower jaw . Was x ray not needed to confirm , which teeth is to be removed or it can be decided just from the mold and photographs ?

What kind of treatment should I expect for overlapping teeth?
December 12th, 2011Hi Ian I thought Id ask you this as you are a specialist. I need braces and am not bothered which set I end up with really although if its possible I would like to avoid train track braces (if not I’m not bothered but it would be nice to do so). the problem I have is tha my lower teeth are much more overlapped than my upper teeth which are only mildly crossed, the thing is if i leave them longer the top teeth will just become more overlapped so I decided to take action quickly. what I want to know is whether the fact that the to arches are clearly at varying degrees of overlapping would be a problem. will i end up with the top brace being taken off and keeping the botom one on for longer or what? cheers Dr

How do Lingual braces actually work?
December 12th, 2011Can you tell me how the lingual braces are actually attached to the teeth and if you wouldn’t mind I would like some detail on this. This is the part of the treatment that really scares me. I don’t mind the thought of wearing braces for a long time as long as I’m getting what I pay for but I’m not all that comfortable with hands routing around my mouth and all the wires and any pain. Please tell me if till be all good!

I want fixed braces but am worried than my diabetes will affect my treatment.
December 9th, 2011hello Mr Hutchinson, I am in a bit of bother over getting braces. I have decided to not go with the Inman or Invisalign or anything I think full fixed braces- though disgusting will work better , all the time and I have seen first hand people who have had them and the results they have obtained with them. the only issue i have is that i have had for as long as i can remember type 2 diabetes. I haven’t got gum disease and all my teeth are in rude health, I have had an oral cancer screening to make sure I didn’t have that (leaving no stone unturned) as I know that your mouth has to be in the best condition it can be in before having a brace. I just wanted to know if diabetes could affect the chances of me getting a brace- and whether or not there is anything I should know if not. what are your thoughts? thanks for this
