I need braces but don’t want to wear them at social events, what are the alternatives?

November 20th, 2012
Q.

Hi there! i am interested in straightening out my teeth but i am not keen on wearing braces to social events,

is there an alternative?

My lower jaw teeth are crooked, the top set are not so much an issue.

I read somewhere that you can get braces aligned to the backs of the teeth, would this mean they do not show from the front?

my question is apparently too short to be published and i have ran out of ways to elaborate without putting the audience to sleep haha so I hope this sends

thanks for your time Mr Patel.

How much does it cost for tooth contouring and can it help with a gappy smile?

November 20th, 2012
Q.

Sorry, I have a couple of questions. Firstly, how much would it cost to have pointy teeth ‘shaved’ down and reshaped? Secondly, I read somewhere about ‘contouring’ — where small gaps between crooked teeth can be filled. How much would that cost? My canines are really pointy, as are the teeth between the canines and the front two, because they have been twisted around due to overcrowding. It would be these four teeth that I would like fixed. Also, I have a lot of problems with my jaw (possibly TMJ) and I think my crooked, overcrowded teeth have been caused/worsened by my jaw problems. Is there any treatment available on the NHS that could be used to fix these problems. For example, tooth extraction followed by basic braces? Is it ever possible to get NHS help for other types of braces, or are basic metal braces the only ones they will pay for?

I received my orthodontist referral too late and have incurred a charge. What should I do?

April 19th, 2012
Q.

I have a big problem with my teeth, I hate smiling because theyre are just too many teeth in my mouth. They are all out of line and since I was 12 Ive been told I would need braces. In 2009 at the age of 17 my dentist referred me to an orthodontist but I never heard anything or received a letter. I have always asked about it but the dentist has fobbed me off so when I went in 2 weeks ago I complained and insisted that they investigate why I heard nothing. I lost my job recently and am currently on jobseekers allowance. I got a letter yesterday stating I have been referred to the orthodontist I was supposed to have been referred to in 2009 but now I am 19 they are insisting I pay a non-refundable £55 cost for my first consultation which I cannot afford. I was wondering how I should go about explaining that my dentist was supposed to have referred me almost 3 years ago. I absolutely hate my teeth and smile so would appreciate some professional help. Thankyou

Could braces lead to even greater discolouration of my son’s teeth?

February 8th, 2012
Q.

Hi, My little boy’s teeth are heavily stained, despite having an excellent oral hygiene routine. However, as a baby, he was very ill with asthma and chest infections and constantly took steroids and antibiotics, and my dentist now tells me this could be the cause of the staining. I am broken hearted to see his teeth like this, can it be fixed at some point,as his dentist thinks he may have to have braces to correct his bit which is slightly off, not due to his jaw but his teeth, so he wont be in for surgery just a full brace at some stage, though this will surely make his teeth even more discoloured?? I don’t know what to do and its all going so fast, He is 10 years of age and has a mixture of baby teeth and permanent. if you could help that would be amazing. thank you

What options do I have to fix a gummy smile?

January 26th, 2012
Q.

Hello Mr Thorne. I need your advice on smiles. I have a really gummy smile and have had enough of this. I have looked online for potential solutions and have consistently seen botox used to resolve the issue. the thing is and correct me if i’m wrong but I thought this was more short term with several coursses needed?? regardless off this is wasn’t planning on having botox. I was wondering if there is a brace/orthodontic treatment I can have to help? I would prefer this as it seems like more of a permanent solution. I’d be greatful for any return on this, thank you 🙂

Should I have baby teeth removed and get implants or have braces?

January 4th, 2012
Q.

Hi, When I was a teenager, my canines grew over the top of my baby teeth. In an ill-advised decision, I had the adult canines removed. 10 years on, i am trying to decide on the best option to fix this problem as the baby teeth are going to fall out eventually. Either way i have decided to get orthodontics to straighten my teeth as top and bottom are crooked. I have seen three orthodontists. They said i basically have 2 options. 1: remove the baby teeth and get implants or 2: remove the baby teeth and move the molars around to close the gap. I think I would prefer option 2 as it is the cheaper and appears to be better in the long term. My question is if it is possible to expect a normal looking smile by pulling the molars around and can the 1st molar be shaped to resemble a canine? Do you have any recommendations on which option might be preferable?

Should I have a brace before getting lumineers?

November 9th, 2011
Q.

Hello, I have had three lumineers after I chipped three the three teeth in question after a rather nasty accident at work. these ahppen to be on the same row of teeth thats started to overlap. I dont know why I thought that at the age of 32 my teeth/facial features as well as my self has stopped growing, this doesn’t appear to be the case. one theory I have is that they were never flat (that’s actually the case) in that they over lapped but to a point that no-one would notice and now thay have just slipped and all of them have began to over lap slightly the issue I have got is that one of the lumineers has cracked and broken off right in the bottom corner – I think as a result of the teeth moving as they have. so firstly this needs replacing and I don’t know if this is possible. but I would want to do that ideally after Id had a brace of some form to straighten them out. I have money from my claim the first time round left so that’s not an issue, do you thin that I could have a brace on these lumineers and is it possible to then have one removed/replaced? cheers

I need a full smile makeover, with braces, veneers and tooth whitening. What should I have first?

October 27th, 2011
Q.

I need a full smile makeover, all my teeth are healthy and as far as I can tell I don’t have gum disease in any form as my teeth dont bleed, there’s no inflammation… anyway I was thinking I should start with the brace. my teeth are slightly over lapped and stained as well as one that has a large corner chipped off so I believe a veneer may be adequate for this. What would you say was best both in terms of a brace- basically what brace generally sorts out crooked teeth best/quickest and when would you have the brace, I’d need that veneer, teeth whitening and a brace and as such want the brace to take as little time as is possible for it to do so?
