I am researching getting orthodontic treatment, Is there a way you can get unbiased reviews of dentists in your area?

August 10th, 2012
Q.

Hi there,
I am considering having some orthodontic treatment as I am not completely happy with my teeth. I am in the process of researching potential dentists and clinics to have this done. I live in quite a remote place in the country in the north west of England. I was wondering if there are any websites where you can get unbiased reports of dentists in your area. I have seen a lot of websites saying how great the dentist at their clinic is. I’m sure every dentist is highly trained but I just want the best there is around, mainly because of my fear for the dentist, so if I go I want to be sure I’m in the best hands, can you recommend any clinic, dentists or websites that would be useful to me? Thank you for your time.

Hello Raha, I’m 11 years old and i would like a brace putting on my teeth to make them straight. Your teeth are really nice and your really pretty, what brace can i have on to get my teeth like yours? I look through all the magazines my mum has and everyone has lovely teeth! How much does it cost to have a brace? I would like a pink one if you can get pink ones? I would really like it if you answered my question, Thank you Raha!

I have a mild overbite, i am only 16 but how much will it cost me to have braces put on?

August 10th, 2012
Q.

Hello,

I have a mild overbite on my upper (the tooth is at an angle rather than straight down) and under-bite tooth on the bottom layer of teeth. I believe that without the help of braces my overbite will make all allow all of the other teeth in line with that tooth to slant. So far i am not experiencing any issues with the normal functions of the bite. However it does concern me that i will have crooked teeth. Therefore i am requesting braces. Would this option be available? If how much would it cost, i am under the age of 18 (Currently 16) and will be attending sixth form in September, if regarding costs how much do you think it will be in order for me to have them and if so which braces? Again it is only two teeth on the upper jaw line and one on the lower line. It did start out as one but is slowly pushing the other teeth to overlap the next. As i am requesting it will cost, i am aware. As i am requesting will it still be possible or will my dentist say there is no need? I would strongly like to have not full braces as i don’t have really bad teeth although something to straighten then.

Many thanks,

Hope you can get back to me with my questions soon. I have booked an appointment with the consultant.

I am not able to smile or talk with confidence, my dentists wants to remove 4 teeth and put a brace on, will this work?

August 10th, 2012
Q.

I am now 23 years old female.i had done dental treatment done almost six years ago now.i had a complex problem, by birth my lower jaw was inside.during the treatment it was brought forward using twin blocks. Then braces were fitted to bring it back, it was fine after it firstly got done. However after about 15months my teeth came forward, it was fixed using retainers. But the problem is there is still projection of teeth. You can hardly see it from outside.I am not able to smile well or talk with confidence. When I visited my dentist I got told that the only possibility is to remove 4 of my teeth, top from the top and two from the bottom and then put on braces.Would this work? Also if teeth were taken out then could dental implants be placed there instead of my teeth? Also I am missing 4 molars, one from each quadrant of my mouth, should I just try getting braces again without removing any teeth?

My teeth are weak and wobbly, is it possible for me to have braces?

June 8th, 2012
Q.

Raha i was hoping you could help me – Ever since I was younger my teeth have been very weak and I have quite a lot of movement in them. They always seem a little bit wobbly and not secure. I’m 20 now and am getting really sick of not having the healthy teeth that I’d like. I think it’s mostly genetic because my father has really bad teeth too, always breaking. I did want to consider having a brace, but just wanted to know if I could have any treatment to strengthen my teeth before having one? If there is no treatment could i have a brace with my teeth in the state they are? What are my alternatives if not? Implants? Hope you can help, cheers!

I am allergic to nickel, what brace options do I have?

June 8th, 2012
Q.

Dear Adam, I’m 22 years old and I really want a brace. The only thing is I’m allergic to the nickel that they use in the traditional braces in the NHS, I get very bad blisters when coming into contact with this, i can a number of different allergies, it’s a nightmare! I cannot afford expensive private orthodontic treatments. So I was just asking if there are cheaper braces that don’t have nickel in them? I also wanted to ask what the elastic bands were for, I have seen a few people with them stretching from the top to the bottom of the jaw? Thanks you for your time!

Is there any way to fund Invisalign treatment?

June 8th, 2012
Q.

Hi Raha, My daughter has recently had braces on, she really did need them, she was really unhappy with her appearance and didn’t like going to school. So we have had a brace fitted but her mood has gone even further downhill. I think she’s getting bullied at school. I was wondering if there would be a more discreet way for her to have this treatment. I know there are ways such as invisalign but they are very expensive, is there any funding that we can get or a finance option at your clinic? I’m not sure what the best way to tackle this one is? What is your advice? Thanks!

Can you tell me about the new Smart Bracket Braces? Which brace should I choose?

May 18th, 2012
Q.

Hey there! I’ve heard about these new smart bracket braces? I don’t really understand how they work, can you explain? I looked on the internet and couldn’t really find anything, with that in mind i’m not a great user of the web! They look the same as a normal metal brace? With the introduction of invisalign surely people will go for that instead of an unsightly metal brace, I sure would anyway! I’m currently deciding as to which brace to go for, if the new brace system is a lot quicker then i might be persuaded to go for that one! Between invisalign and the smart bracket which do you think is the most practicle? I did think about lingual braces but i have heard quite a few negative reviews about these! Let me know what your thoughts are! Thanks you!

My lower jaw is further forward than my top jaw. Is there a way to change this and can I get it on the NHS?

May 18th, 2012
Q.

Hello Mr Maini, I’m 20 years old and have been very concious of my appearance since before I can remember. My lower jaw is further forward than my top jaw. This makes my mouth slightly open constantly. I have to physically think about shutting it all the time. I never wanted any operations doing when I was younger because I was always too scared. I was thinking there could be a way with some kind of brace? I read that those big cages on peoples heads sometimes are used for cases like mine, is this true? What kind of time scale do procedures like this take? Do you have to wear them all day or can i just wear them at night? Can i get this done on the NHS? Just really wanted some information about it before i go to the dentist. cheers

I’m having an unpleasant experience with my orthodontist with no results, can I have a second opinion?

May 10th, 2012
Q.

Hello Darsh,
I am having an unpleasant orthodontic treatment with my orthodontist for over two years and no positive result is seen so far. I would like to have a second opinion of a specialist orthodontist and maybe do this in writing.
My question is, how much does it cost?
I would need to find out is she doing the treatment well and what further is needed to be done to achieve a great result. I am considering to switch an orthodontist, so this is very important to me. Please let me know. Thank you

Best Regards
