My little girls teeth are very spaced, can she have braces at the age of 5?

December 5th, 2012
Q.

Hello Dr Patel. My little girl of 5 has extremely spaced teeth. All of them are very gappy. I’ve always taken care of her teeth, with regular check-ups etc. I spoke to our family dentist who said she was too young for braces as her milk teeth are still there…which i understand. However, don’t braces change the bite and the alignment? not just ‘straighten’ the actual teeth? I’m worried for her. I don’t want her to get bullied. What should I do? We’re with an NHS dentist but I will happily move private if there’s something to be done. I had problems with my teeth as a young girl and was picked on, I just don’t want the same for her. Thank you for your time.

My wisdom tooth has overgrown so it rubs on my gum, do i need this removing? Can i get dental sedation with the NHS?

August 17th, 2012
Q.

Good day to you Adam, My question is not about braces but i see you are a dentist and i wanted to get your opinion on my case before i go to my dentist. I am 26 and my wisdom tooth on the bottom right hand side has grown to a longer length than my other teeth, so when i bite down my wisdom teeth hits my gum and rubs on a tooth. I am very scared of having my wisdom tooth removed as i’ve heard this operation is very painful. I would like dental sedation but can you get this through an NHS dentist? I would like very much sedation but i know it cost extra, how much is this extra? In your opinion would i definitely need this removing?

I’ve been told that a gap between my teeth has appeared as a result of chewing my nails. Is this possible and how can I fix it?

October 27th, 2011
Q.

hi i have a slight gap inbetween my two front teeth, it is slight and only started to appear a few months back- which is still quicker than i thought it could possibly occur! however, ive been told it could be due to the fact that i chew my nails a lot is this true it sounded like nonsense to me. have you ever seen patients where this has been the case? if it is and i stop chewing them will my teeth go back to its original position? didnt think so thats why im on here! would i need a full brace just to close a small gap (approx. 2mm but definitely growing) or is there anything else available to sort out this kind of issue? as you can tell im reluctant to have braces for what right now is a minor issue, on the grand scale of things, so I wanted to know what you recommend?

My teeth are beyond re-structural help. What can I do?

September 28th, 2011
Q.

I have several teeth that I believe are beyond re-structural help they are all healthy and well coloured but it would take a genius metal fabricator to get wire round these bad boys, however i need corrective treatment and was wondering for extreme cases of crowded teeth what would be the best option? ive toyed with the idea of having them removed and having implants as its only like 3/4 teeth? obviously id prefere to keep my teeth but they really are all over the place. so if they were only a little out of line invislign would surely be the obvious treatment as the teeth don’t have to move far and you can barely see it. at the other end of the scale like I am what would you recommend looking at and am I well off in my idea or have you seen it done before?

What braces treatment would you recommend for my horrible crooked teeth?

July 8th, 2011
Q.

Hello Doctor,

I just wanted some general advice on the best brace for my condition. I understand that a full evaluation will be needed before everything can be certain but I would just love some outside information to help me with my choice. OK basically I have very horrible teeth, not decayed or disease just very crooked. My two front teeth are buck and I have a number of those ‘fang’ teeth which occur when teeth erupt above milk teeth and then never settle. Which brace system would you recommend for treating this case effectively, quickly and if possible discreetly?

Thank you very much for your time doctor and any help you can give is greatly appreciated.

Is there a suitable braces treatment that isn’t metal for my tooth condition?

July 8th, 2011
Q.

Hello Dr Patel, I am interested in having the Inman Aligner Brace because it is a lot faster than other braces but my dentist says that my teeth are too crooked for this treatment and I have to have some of my teeth removed for braces and the best treatment for me is metal braces. Is there an alternative to metal braces if you have very crowded teeth as I do not want anyone to see me wearing metal braces. I know there is Invisalign but my dentist even discouraged me from this saying that it will take 3 years with invisalign compared to 18 months with metal braces. Can you also give me an idea of how much this treatment would cost even if its a ballpark estimate. Thanks

What treatment would you suggest for my gapped front teeth?

July 8th, 2011
Q.

Hello Doctor,

I am looking to treat myself to a set of braces and after seeing that recent picture of Holly Willoughby would like a pair of her braces. I think they were 6 months smiles could these be used in the treatment of large gap between my two front teeth? I so not have any other problem just this so could you suggest a general treatment time and price?

I really appreciate any help you can give and thank you very much for your time
