I have an overbite I wish to fix for my wedding in May, is this possible?

November 28th, 2011
Q.

Hello Dr Patel,

I have a slight overbite (according to dentists but I think it’s huge) plus teeth that are not straight, especially my front teeth. I’m getting married next year May and was wondering if there is enough time to fix my teeth by orthodontic treatment.

The problem I have is cosmetic but affects my smile and confidence. I have heard about the Inman Aligner but it only fixes bottom teeth. I’m really conscious about having a great smile for the big day and want to know if there is enough time to fix them.

Thank you

How do Six Month Smiles work and are they expensive?

November 28th, 2011
Q.

hi Dr Maini ive looked at your profile and can see that you are the man I need to talk to about six month smiles. aside from the fact that they rectify your teeth how exactly do they work? do they go on like normal braces or what? my sister used to have braces and she hated them- I hated them for her they looked a mess and she had them for about 2 and a half years so naturally the idea of having them on for six months seems appealing to myself. also what is the price difference when it comes to six month smiles when compared with traditional braces on average? if they are massively expensive can I pay for them in instalment type methods?

Why has my dentist put blocks on my back teeth?

November 28th, 2011
Q.

I just got bottom braces yesterday(metal with coloured bits on the teeth) after getting top ones 6 weeks ago. I have got blocks on my back teeth made of the glue. They are so uncomfortable and i can’t close my jaw, when will i be able to get rid of them? Its to stop my top teeth touching my bottom teeth brace. Are they any other options? How long till they stop aching on the bottom? Thank you very much. (Its blue glue) Hope that u can answer this soon. DO you think that i could get it removed soon?

If I am not a suitable candidate for the Inman Aligner, what are my other brace options?

November 28th, 2011
Q.

Hi i was wondering if the inman aligner could close gaps not just pull crooked teeth together. I like the look of it and like how its meant to be one of the quicker options but Im having trouble finding a provider in my local area. all of my bottom teeth are gapped as are my top. would you condone two different treatment types for the same mouth? I f I had say the inman aligner on the bottom and Invisalign on top would you say that that was OK? or would you have your patients stick to one? as far as I see it so what if they’re finished at different times? the sooner the better and that’s all I care about. if in the inman will not close gapped teeth what’s the best way to do so without getting a traditional fixed brace?

A wire is cutting into my cheek and causing discomfort and I’ve only had my brace for a day! What should I do?

November 28th, 2011
Q.

Hello there, I got my fixed braces put on yesterday to fix my under jaw, however today my braces have cause me a lot of pain and i have a metal bit poking into my cheek causing it to blister and swell. I’ve only had them on for a day so don’t want to go back to the orthodontist and look like a pest. Is there any home tips that you could give me to stop this from happening? As I dont want a constant cut in my cheek, it’s only on one side as well. thank you Dr Maini

Why doesn’t my orthodontist adjust my brace more often?

November 28th, 2011
Q.

Hi Sharon,
I have been advised by my Orthodontist to wear braces.
I’m currently wearing metal braces on top teeth since last year and I had them tightened and adjusted only twice since then.
I am no longer in contact with my Orthodontist and I am not sure if I should continue the treatment or if it’s possible to remove them without any risk for the teeth. I’m also not confident if braces were the best advised option in my case.
Many thanks

Can essix retainers cause infections and if so, how can I stop this?

November 28th, 2011
Q.

From your experience can a essix retainer cause infections in your mouth? I’ve been wearing them for 10years now and this is the first time it’s happened. I got a replacement as my old retainer was getting rather old, then when I started wearing the new one even after 10minutes I began to get white rings at my gum line and spots on my gums. The orthodontist made me a new one but it happened again and is now refusing to make me another, but my dentist is telling me to stop wearing it as it’s damaging my gums, how can I stop this from happening?

Is there an alternative to the rather pre-historic head strap on my brother’s brace?

November 17th, 2011
Q.

hello
my younger brother had been given a strap/elastic band thing that he has to wear as part of his orthodontic treatment to fix his over bite before he grows up. He’s thirteen now and has continually told me how much he hates and as his brother I can see how much it bothers him wearing it and the distress it gives him. I said I’d find out if there was any other treatment he could have as I really feel for him- he does lok an absolute tool with them things on it looks like something from the 1950’s and i thought we would have sinse moved on and had something better to do the job. is this the case Dr? and if so what treatments would this be applicable to? thank you very much

Can a brace realign my crooked bite?

November 17th, 2011
Q.

hi, I want to know if a brace will solve the problem I have but it’s not a massive problem I don’t think. When I bite and smile as wide as I can to reveal all my teeth yo can notice that the back teeth seem to be stuck further out as large parts of the second molars (lower), are visible. this is the same on either side and is very symmetrical, it therefore is not an un-even bit but it could be possibly be a bad bite. Id noticed this only for cosmetic reasons as one of the teeth has a cavity and if my mouth is shut and I smile the cavity is clearly visible. I was wondering if a brace could pull my upper teeth out a bit to cover more of the tooth? in order to do this which would you say is the best brace?
