I’m considering Invisalign and Six Month Smiles but have been warned against any brace treatment. What should I do?

November 2nd, 2011
Q.

I am 54 years old. I am considering invisalign and Six Month Smiles treatments. I have one front tooth that protudes and two gaps between my top teeth as my one front tooth has moved further and further forward. (I had this corrected when younger but gradually moved back). My concern is a good friend who is a dentist has strongly advised me against having any treatment. This has given me cause for concern. I would appreciate your views on adults of my age embarking on orthodontist treatment.

Would 6 month braces be a good choice to prepare my teeth for my upcoming wedding?

November 2nd, 2011
Q.

Hi, I have my wedding next august (autumn leaves and all that). I want the day to go perfect as I only intend to do this once in my life ever. so I thought the other day that me teeth were far from perfect so I need a solution before the wedding, I cannot still be stood at the alter with braces I will just have them removed if treatments not done by then I don’t care. I have heard whispers about six month smiles, this would be ideal as by next August I will have started on the retention jazz wouldn’t I. yeah if you could advise me on this treatment and also any other treatment thatmay work in the same way or better than this to get smiles perfect quickly i would be very grateful, thank you so much.

If I break my braces how far will it put me back in terms of treatment time?

November 2nd, 2011
Q.

HEllo, I’m a full brace wearer top an bottom- old train tracks. I have a question regarding the course of treatment involved with braces. If I damage my braces how far can it put me back?for example if, as I am on an approximate 18-10 month course of treatment, if I damage the braces and have to go to the dentist and have them fixed how long could it set me back? I was told that this could be the case when I had them and have been warned on my two adjustment appointments since then as well, but If for example I snap a wire then I don’t see how I could loose a lot of treatment time other than that spent waiting to have it fixed and indeed having it fixed? please could you help advise me’?? thanks

Why do I have to wear a retainer and how long would I have to wear it for?

November 2nd, 2011
Q.

hey, OK I have had a brace for nearly two years now, I’m bothered about this as I can see my teeth are nearly done which is nice, I know I will then need to have a retainer after the brace as my dentist has told me. what I don’t understand is why I need a retainer? If my teeth have been moved back to their proper/current position then why would they relapse back into a place that’s no right just to be awkward. I’ve has these braces for a while as the brace had to improve my bite as well as my crooked teeth. surely my mouth will not return to having a bad bite as well? also how long will I have to wear to retainer for I don’t want to have to have it all my life you see? cuold you please advise me on retainers, I would really appreciate to know more about them and where I stand with them, thanks

I am getting impatient with my braces treatment. Will it hurt to have them taken off?

November 1st, 2011
Q.

Hi im about half way through my brace treatment. I have full, upper and lower fixed braces, this has got me thinking about having them removed as im pretty much counting down the days now. I cannot wait for this we have an approximate date set of 10th-20th of July for the removal. this was updated the other week when my orthodontist said I was responding really well to treatment and that my teeth were moving quicker than he has planned initially which is great stuff. I asked my friend what it was like when she has hers off and she said she could not stop licking her teeth the weirdo! but I wanted to know if they hurt when you take them off, im worried because they’ve been glued on there (or would have been) for 18 or so months, please could you tell me your thoughts from your experience please im getting quite nervous about something I should be happy about.

What kind of orthopaedic braces will I be given to stop my bottom front teeth from grinding?

November 1st, 2011
Q.

Hi, I’m about to get orthopedic work done on my teeth due to grinding issues and it is causing me a lot of distress. I am unable to see my orthodontist until December and I would really like some of my questions answered so that I can relax a little. Firstly, do you know what kind of brace I would have to stop my top front teeth grinding with my bottom front teeth? How long would I have to wear them for too? These are just some of my concerns that I would really be grateful for if you could answer so that I could rest easy.

How many aligners are normally needed to complete a case of Invisalign?

November 1st, 2011
Q.

Hi, I am about to be having Invisalign treatment to sort out slightly crowded teeth. I dohowever have a problem that I want to clarify with yourself, who has comleted many similar cases. when you are consulting a patient and advising them how long treatment will take/ how many retainers they will personally need, what would you say is the average amount of retainers? I always thought it was four retainers for two weeks but I have now been told that I could need as many as six retainers over a period of three months (two weeks intervals). either take that option or have a more conventional option which is much longer, could you please advise me what I should expect and whether what I have been told is right or whether my orthodontist is off his head? cheers

One of my teeth seems lower to the rest. What can be done about this?

November 1st, 2011
Q.

‘Hi Dr, I have noticed after experiencing some discomfort with my braces that one of them seems to be lower than the rest on my second to rear tooth on the right (first molar) I don’t know if it was put on like that because I never noticed but now I know that that’s where the pain is originating from, its not a sharp pain more like an aching pain! could you please advise me on whether a brace would be put on like this it doesn’t seem the case to me. the anchor site on the second molar is level with that on the second premolar? and the rest of the teeth thats why it seems odd that this one is lower and also why im convinced this is the source of the pain? (ps: I hope the names of the teeth are right otherwise your not going to have a clue 😀 ) cheers for putting up with this but any help would be brilliant and I thank you very much.
