Can a brace save my under-bite and in doing so reduce wrinkles around my mouth?

October 19th, 2011
Q.

I need to have a brace to sort out a slight under bite. that’s the end of the problems as you will see in a minute but for now will any brace sort out an under bite or will it fix it at all? I see how it would fix an over bite as it pulls all the teeth in but how could it then push all the teeth back out? If a brace can fix this what kind of brace would be needed would it have to be a traditional fixed brace or can I have any of the more aesthetically pleasing ones? then we get to the next bit. I have wrinkles in my cheeks near my mouth and suspect they are there because my underbite is not supporting my face. I was hoping whether you could confirm whether this can happen and if a brace will get rid of them (if my teeth are sorted), if not whatsurgery can I have in and around the mouth to get rid of them? thank you doctor

My son sucks his thumb often, what implications can this have?

October 19th, 2011
Q.

MY son sucks lis thumb a lot and constantly has his fingers in his mouth, now as a toddler its expected i know this but the wife keeps trying to give him a dummy which im quite sure he’d love but I wont let im near it- this has caused many debates as you can imagine. im worried that if he keeps sucking his thumb as his teeth are coming through and both he and his face are growing they will grow to be in a strange position leaving like an open gap where his mouths used to his thumb being there. will this or will this not increase the likleyhood of him needing braces when he’s older and does it leave any further damage (indeed if it leaves any) to the rest of his mouth?

What mouthwash is best when wearing braces?

October 19th, 2011
Q.

My son had fixed braces applied today, and was told to use an alcohol free mouthwash as part of the cleaning routine.
We purchased Corsodyl alcohol free mouthwash, but he’s not sure whether or not it’s appropriate to use.
I have tried looking online for some answers unfortunately with no avail!
All we have found is that it can stain teeth if it’s used regularly,I have suggested diluting it but he refuses to use it until he has conformation!
Please could you shed some light on this matter!
Thank you so much
Thank you

I have suffered a light relapse that is probably my fault is there anything I can do to close the gap?

October 13th, 2011
Q.

Hi,
I am 18 years old and I had a brace around 3 years ago. I didn’t like having it and admittedly I didn’t wear my retainer as often as I should have – though my orthodontist told me I only needed to wear it at night. I now have a gap in the front teeth, which is the only thing that bothers me, but is there any way I can get it sorted? What are my options? Would I have to pay for the treatment, and how much does it cost? Are there any other options that do not include having a fixed brace?
Thanks very much,

Can I have my braces removed/upgraded for linguals and how else can I keep them clean?

October 13th, 2011
Q.

I have braces and have done so for about a year, traditional train tracks which i hate. i assume i cannot have them removed in order to implement a new set of linguals perhaps? thas a long shot but worth the ask whilst im here, secondly. although im doing the best I can in terms of keeping ym teeth clean- brushing behind as normal then going through the wires with the little brushes, i also use the point on the flossets to go round my gum line. but sometimes my patience gets the better of me and i get fed up of it. despite the fact that i will carry on cleaning them i weas wondering tif there was anything i can do when i ahave them removed. if i hav them whitened will they be ok or will i need to leave them for a certain amount of time? i will naturally be at the hygienist as soon as l#have them off but im worried they may be stained as my tetth were always bright white they already seem faded?

I have snapped a wire that’s causing me pain but I’m on holiday! what should I do?

October 13th, 2011
Q.

hi my wires snapped and is now poking out but I’m in Scotland on a family holiday until next Sunday so well over a week before I can get back and see my dentist. is there anything i can do myself it came out yesterday and is scratching the inside of my cheek to ribbons and is irritating the crap out of me. I was about to cut it out but then would the orthodontist be able to get a new wire back in r would she have to take the braces off and put a new set back on when i return? I am 21 you see and I don’t want to have to pay for another set- I understand that alterations and fixing them isn’t an issue but I can’t have them fixed right here right now without taking actions into my own hands.

A bone in my food pulled my wire and may have pulled my tooth, what issues surround pulling wires?

October 13th, 2011
Q.

the other day I went for an Italian with a few friends and have BBQ ribs, one of the bones (which I didnt know was even there!) got caught in my wire and pulled, I could feel this pulling sensation on my tooth straght away but thought it was just a reaction- like poking it or something, but three days later and the pain still has not alleviated- mild as it is. it’s not show stoppingly bad its just that I can feel it and know it doesn’t seem right. what I wanted to know was whether something like this could do any damage. the rib bone got right behind the wire then pried it as I bit. the wire didnt break and im worried its pulled my tooth and set progress back months. If its dome damage how severe would you say this could be without seeing it yourself. cheers
