Why are my adult teeth moving out of position and what can be done to straighten them?

January 4th, 2013
Q.

Hello Dr Patel.
I’ve been noticing some change with my teeth recently as some of the top and bottom teeth are moving and becoming dislodged slightly and its causing the other teeth to move out of place and i’m afraid soon, all my teeth with of moved out of place and have all become crooked. Do you think I need a brace to straighten them out or do you think removing one of the teeth to give the others more room would help. If you think a brace is the answer i’m concerned about what affect this will have on my work life. Do you know of any less noticeable braces? Also, could you shed some light on why this might be happening now at 34? Thank you

Would I have to have my protruding canine removed before proceeding with braces?

December 7th, 2012
Q.

hi there adam, my problem is that i have a very twisted tooth the protrudes (canine) and the rest of my teeth are slightly out of place…i think i can get them fixed with braces. As i am 24 i’ want private treatment, i like the NHS but don’t like the look of the fixed braces. Do you think the canine would have to be removed before i have the braces? I’m really hoping some private treatments can help me! I’m due for an appointment next week but i am petrified of needles…i don’t want to have it extracted. Any advice would be great. thank you for your time.

Will Invisalign work for me? And how discreet are they?

December 7th, 2012
Q.

Hi, this is just a general enquiry before I book a consultation with an orthodontist but I still hope you can provide a good insight. I don’t want to pay for a consultation only to be rejected for the treatment I want. I’m a 42 year old female, who works in an office environment. I have had crooked teeth for far too long now and looking for some braces which are discreet. The only problem is that I have 2 missing bottom teeth (on the left at the back) and I have a missing tooth at the top (left at the back) will invisalign or something like that still work for me? and would it work AS well? thank you for your time.

Would the fact that I’ve had a lot of dental procedures affect the chances of me having a brace?

December 5th, 2012
Q.

I have a situation? i think i nee braces but am told basically your teeth have to be in good order before i can, this provides me with the situation, i have a crown and two fillings the crown is where my second molar is and the fillings both on the first molar all on the top shelf. however I have gaps in my front teeth on top and crowding on the bottom I therefore need the bottom pulling apart and the top pulling together, would the fact that I have had these dental procedures make a difference to the requirements needed to have a brace? i think my gums are in good health there’s no redness or anything, my dentist was worries about my teeths health as I from the Philippines where tooth health is poor. can you advise me please, thank you

My new braces are affecting how I play the flute, please help!

December 5th, 2012
Q.

Hi Dr Patel, I got braces on my upper teeth yesterday. The only problem is, I can’t play my flute anymore! I do make a sound, but it’s of poor quality and it’s off in tone and very airy, sort of like the sound a first-timer would produce. Thankfully I don’t have any concerts coming up, but I’m still panicking. I can’t just not practice my flute, it makes me go crazy! Should I just leave myself to get used to having braces, or should I try anything special? How long does it normally take to get back to normal? Please help, I’m worried this is going to affect my playing permanently.

My little girls teeth are very spaced, can she have braces at the age of 5?

December 5th, 2012
Q.

Hello Dr Patel. My little girl of 5 has extremely spaced teeth. All of them are very gappy. I’ve always taken care of her teeth, with regular check-ups etc. I spoke to our family dentist who said she was too young for braces as her milk teeth are still there…which i understand. However, don’t braces change the bite and the alignment? not just ‘straighten’ the actual teeth? I’m worried for her. I don’t want her to get bullied. What should I do? We’re with an NHS dentist but I will happily move private if there’s something to be done. I had problems with my teeth as a young girl and was picked on, I just don’t want the same for her. Thank you for your time.

What braces treatment would be suitable for my case where one tooth is longer than the others?

November 30th, 2012
Q.

Hello,

I was just looking through the pictures of before and after treatment. I noticed one of the pictures are very similar to my teeth. My bottom 4 teeth are crooked but all the others are fine. One of the 4 teeth is longer than the others so was wondering what you would do about that. Just wanted to know what kind of braces or treatment would i need to have to straighten them and roughly how much would it cost also how long will it take? Would it be a retainer treatment as iv heard. Also i noticed in one picture that there is a metal piece on the inner ?

Thank you

Is there any way to get free braces or at a cheaper price as I don’t qualify anymore?

November 22nd, 2012
Q.

I was waiting from the age of 13 to 17 for braces for one reason to the next! I finally get a chance about 4 months before my 18th birthday & then get told I can’t have braces for free because my teeth aren’t 4mm out, or something but I am so self concious, I don’t smile & when I laugh I try to cover my teeth, they are horrible ! & I’m only 18 so can’t afford to pay for baraces whatsoever, im so upset about this & it was all my dentist fault not nothing & hurrying me up before that silly rule came in! ! Is there anyway I can get them for free ? I wouldn’t normally try and get stuff on the cheap but i feel like i have been played by my dentist do this would be the case then I would have to pay!! thank you in advance

I need braces but don’t want to wear them at social events, what are the alternatives?

November 20th, 2012
Q.

Hi there! i am interested in straightening out my teeth but i am not keen on wearing braces to social events,

is there an alternative?

My lower jaw teeth are crooked, the top set are not so much an issue.

I read somewhere that you can get braces aligned to the backs of the teeth, would this mean they do not show from the front?

my question is apparently too short to be published and i have ran out of ways to elaborate without putting the audience to sleep haha so I hope this sends

thanks for your time Mr Patel.
