Could I have treatment for my crooked teeth?

November 7th, 2013
Q.

Hello,
I am a 56-year old woman with very crooked front teeth which have got progressively worse over the years, partly due to a phobia of dentists. I have an overbite and my two top front teeth overlap. The lower ones are worse, due to overcrowding, but are not so visible. I live in Paris, but would prefer to have the treatment done in London. Would you be able to give me an idea of cost, type and duration of treatment from an x-ray, please?
Many thanks in advance.
Kind regards,

dr adam thorne

Can I have braces that are discreet?

September 17th, 2013
Q.

Hello Dr Maini,
I am 29 years old and have crooked teeth all along the bottom of mouth. Generally they are easy to hide day to day but i would like to get them straightened so that I don’t have to worry about hiding them anymore. If possible I would like braces that i can take out because I do not want the health of my teeth to suffer at all as I had a friend who had this problem.I really don’t want fixed braces because of how they look, and I would like something that works quite fast but is gentle as I hate pain! are there any braces which would work for my problem do you think? I have heard about clear braces but i really don’t know much information about them or if they would be suitable for me. If I have to have fixed ones I don’t think I would have braces treatment.

My son is 12, his adult teeth have come through crooked, would you recommend Lingual braces?

August 10th, 2012
Q.

Hi there

do you recommend lingual braces for younger patients? My son is 12 and his adult teeth have come through pretty crooked and he feels self conscious as it is. Im not sure if the invisible braces look advanced enough to straighten his teeth out, so if he has lingual braces it would combine the two best aspects of the two different braces and he wouldn’t feel awkward.

I just worry that because his teeth have only just come through that he won’t be suitable for the braces/

what do you think doctor?

thank you

My jaw dislocates itself, a brace would really help, can I get it on the NHS?

May 10th, 2012
Q.

Hi , I am 19 years old and still in full time education as I attend college. I am currently receiving physiotherapy to my jaw as it tends to dislocate itself on a regular basis. I have had a few accidents in my younger years which I have had to receive 2 operations in my mouth my teeth are very crooked and chipped. As i am receiving physiotherapy my physiothearipist was saying how a brace would really help keep my jaw in place as they could put small elastic bands around the braces, but as I am over the age of 18 I do understand that the NHS don’t tend to cover it. Is there any chance because of my circumstances that I could receive braces on the NHS?

I know I have to pay for treatment but can I have alternative orthodontic systems at an NHS dentist?

April 11th, 2012
Q.

hello I was wondering what treatments you can receive on the NHS. I have been told you stop receiving the right to have braces for free on the NHS when your 16 but does that mean only fixed braces? I am looking to get braces and upon learning that I would not be able to have them on the NHS (at which point I was willing to have traditional train tracks) I decided to look at what braces are available to align crooked teeth. turns out theres a few and thats why sites like this are up no doubt. If I were to go to a NHS dentist- whetherI haed to pay or not, would I be able to receive any alternative treatments or do they only do traintracks? if so I will go private as to get what I want if im paying for It, and secondly whilst im here are there any benefits of having it done on the NHS or are there advantages of going pivate that outweigh those of the NHS treatment? thanks for any response.

With gaps and slanted teeth, would I be suitable for braces?

March 20th, 2012
Q.

I have gaps between all of my top teeth and two of my top teeth are a little crooked and slanted, I really want braces but I don’t know if my dentist will let me have them, do you think that is enough of a reason for me to get braces, and should I go see him or can I make an appointment straight with the orthodontist? I really want braces as my teeth annoy me and to me they look horrible so could you please help me. Thank you, this could really be of a great help

My teeth are misaligned and crooked but the hospital won’t even see me. Why?

March 5th, 2012
Q.

Hello Mr. Patel.  I’m 18 and from the West Midlands I have a problem with my teeth. They are crooked, mis-aligned and cause me a great deal of distress. Many people will never see me smile because I’m far too self conscious to do so.( I should note that both my teeth and gums are healthy and don’t cause my any discomfort apart from the occasional ache as my wisdom teeth came through last year.) I finally plucked up the courage to go to my first dental visit when I turned 18 but because of my age I do not qualify for free NHS orthodontic treatment. My dentist did refer me to the Hospital but it turned out I wasn’t eligible.

My problem is that the hospital have not seen my teeth and I do not believe they can make and informed opinion without looking at them. Even my dentist believes they would be of benefit to me. They couldn’t of seen pictures or X rays to make the decision because I only just had them done today

I apologise for the long message but I really would appreciate your professional opinion on what I should do because I’m really desperate to get my teeth fixed and I do not have the financial support to go private.

Thanks,

When will I begin to see a change in my teeth with Invisalign?

March 5th, 2012
Q.

Hello Ms Sepehrara I need to askk you a question about invisalign. I have read your profile and have looked on your site and can see that this is your forte as such. so then, I have been wearing the Invisalign braces for just under two weeks and am due for my second set soon. I have been told that there will be four sets of these braces/aligners used. I have seen no apparent difference up to now and was wondering how the changes required would be made over the next three at this rate…
Could you please tell me hen I would start seeing improvements in my teeth shape or whether I should have already and some things wrong. thank you Dr for your time.
