I think I will look a bit daft if I get braces in my thirties. Can you advise?

March 9th, 2012
Q.

Hello Sir,. could you please lay to rest the fears i now have about braces. I have wanted them for a while now but I never wanted the train tracks. As a thirty one year old i feel lI would look a bit daft with them on and I here they take the longest of any treatment. I have been trying to research about things like and Inman Aligner and Invisalign but Have e found a lot of horror stories about both and also stories about how they’ve not worked or lined bottom teeth up with the top etc. what would you say about these types of brace treatment, are they reliable and do they give the correct and desired results? thank you

Would Invisalign or the Inman aligner be able to fix my canine teeth that stick out slightly and are rotated?

February 9th, 2012
Q.

Hi, I would like to correct my teeth. Althought the front 6 teeth are straight, the teeth behind disappear intot he back of my mouth. When I smeile, you only see the front teeth. My canine teeth are stick out slightly and are rotated. I want to correct this, I have been to a local dentist for a consultation. He suggested Inman Aligners (as that’s what the practice offers) althogh he did state that there was a chance they would not move the teeth as much as I would like. Would Invisalign do the job? I don’t mind having full old fashioned braces if it will move them enough but I’m finding less Dentists offering this. Please can you help Raha?

I have oral thrush because of my asthma, am I still able to get braces?

November 17th, 2011
Q.

Hi Dr Anoop,
I am a long term asthma sufferer and have always been dependant on two inhalers a reliever and a preventer. this combined with my apparent over zealous use of mouthwash lead to me contracting oral thrush. I was given miconazole mouth gel for two weeks to get rid of it as I can’t have the drops? anyway it’s been gone now for perhaps just over a month, I was wondering whether this would affect me getting braces or potentially lead to it coming back? the mouth gel was horrible and I hated having it. If i did contract it again- as im still dependant on an inhaler (just one combined one now though), would I be able to have the gel or would the brace not allow me to o so for any reason? for your additional information I would point out that I would be getting full tooth coloured traditional braces, if that makes any kind of difference, thanks Anoop.

Having moved from Liverpool to London would it be possible to change orthodontists during treatment?

November 16th, 2011
Q.

Right now Dr I have a serious problem that I need help with urgently. Me and my parents have just moved from liverpool to London for my dads work. However I have braces on but I got them put on privately and my orthodontist is based back in liverpool. Is it possible to just get another orthodontist to take over and remove them as well as make me a retainer to use afterwards? And finally what is the average cost I am looking at to do all this? Sorry, How long do you think this would take as I believe I am ready to have my braces off right now?

The implants I received after brace treatment are stained what can I do?

November 16th, 2011
Q.

hi I have a query about my implants. 4/5 years ago I had my braces taken off and had two implants in place of my lower left side central and lateral incisors afterwards. The issue is that’s I’d just about got the teeth cleaned when I noticed the implants have now been stained and the rest of my teeth haven’t. I try to clean them as much as I can but I was wondering does the fact that they’re not bone means I can use something other than toothpaste on them. They really stand out because they’re offset to the rest of my teeth (to the centre) and in order to cover it I end up with a lop sided smile which looks just as bad. If there isn’t anything to clean them with would it be possible to get a replacement set or would this cost a lot of money? what would you recommend? thanks

What is the fastest brace treatment for crooked teeth?

October 27th, 2011
Q.

Hi Sharon- I am looking to have braces but I don’t want traditional ones as they are not quick enough. I have been offered a job in Florence, Italy that I am due to start next December and I wanted to sort out my smile before I went if this was possible. I was advised to go and see a specialist orthodontist but I don’t know where there is one local to me so I figure I’d ask one then visit my normal orthodontist. basically I have crooked teeth, quite badly on the bottom and very slightly on the top, I know you can’t see them but what do you think would be the quickest way to sort them out? Can you have invisalign on one row (top in my case) then another form on the bottom or does it not work like that? what would you recommend for straightening crooked teeth quickly?

I have large protruding teeth at the front of my mouth with a crack, would I be suitable for braces?

October 27th, 2011
Q.

Hi Doc,
I’m 24 and my four front upper teeth are big and protruding forward that when i close my mouth you can slightly see the two front teeth,i mostly avoid taking pictures while smiling since my teeth are big and facing outside, the worst thing i have a big gap between the two front teeth and are stained brown since i was young, of which i dont know the reason for the stain since am the only one in my family with stained two front teeth out of four children.
The two upper front teeth are so sensitive to cold drinks and i detect a crack across one teeth..so my fear is,is it possible i have the straightening braces without my cracked tooth falling down…and if yes for how long will i have them.
Thanks,i will appreciate your help.

I have gaps and a few other minor problems, how much would a brace cost for me?

October 27th, 2011
Q.

hi ian,

i am 27 years old and am considering having a brace fitted to straighten my front four top teeth its mainly needed to close gaps however the outside left of the four is slightly twisted, facing inwards, and the middle two are ever so slightly sticking out, and would need bringing back. i know its difficult to give an estimate without seeing them but, i was hoping you could give me a rough idea of the sort of price it might cost me.

many thanks.

I’m bored of eating the same foods, are there any foods you can recommend for a person with braces?

October 27th, 2011
Q.

hello, I hate my braces, not the look of them necessarily just the sheer discomfort. I accept that when I have them off my teeth will be better looking than ever, so im not miffed in anyway about that I had the choice of having them. however could you please advise me on a few foods to eat please I’ve been very limited on my new diet primarily to porridges and yoghurt’s as well as soups. I have only had them on probably just over two weeks now and am fed up of the foods I’m eating. the dentist told me a whole host of foods not to eat but not ones I could- and I didn’t think to ask! also how long will I have to wait before this subsides? any help you could give me would surely improve my quality of life right now. thanks for your time Dr Thorne

I’ve been told that a gap between my teeth has appeared as a result of chewing my nails. Is this possible and how can I fix it?

October 27th, 2011
Q.

hi i have a slight gap inbetween my two front teeth, it is slight and only started to appear a few months back- which is still quicker than i thought it could possibly occur! however, ive been told it could be due to the fact that i chew my nails a lot is this true it sounded like nonsense to me. have you ever seen patients where this has been the case? if it is and i stop chewing them will my teeth go back to its original position? didnt think so thats why im on here! would i need a full brace just to close a small gap (approx. 2mm but definitely growing) or is there anything else available to sort out this kind of issue? as you can tell im reluctant to have braces for what right now is a minor issue, on the grand scale of things, so I wanted to know what you recommend?
