What braces treatment would be suitable for my case where one tooth is longer than the others?

November 30th, 2012
Q.

Hello,

I was just looking through the pictures of before and after treatment. I noticed one of the pictures are very similar to my teeth. My bottom 4 teeth are crooked but all the others are fine. One of the 4 teeth is longer than the others so was wondering what you would do about that. Just wanted to know what kind of braces or treatment would i need to have to straighten them and roughly how much would it cost also how long will it take? Would it be a retainer treatment as iv heard. Also i noticed in one picture that there is a metal piece on the inner ?

Thank you

I’ve had my brace off for 4 years but my teeth still keep moving, is there a treatment to stop this?

Q.

Hi, im 16 and have had my traintrack braces off for around 4 years now, i started off wearing a clear retainer everynight once i had my brace off but due to them not being strong enough i now wear a wire pallet brace everynight. I have to wear my retainer around every 2-3 hours or my teeth start to move even though its been 4 years since i had my traintracks off, I wondered if there was any treatment to stop this as ive consulted my orthodontist alot and she doesnt seem to solve the matter. Also i feel my teeth are still ‘buck’ and my 2 front teeth are larger than my other teeth, i also wondered if there was any treatment to correct this and make them the same shape and size as my other teeth so they are less noticable as my top lip does not cover them.

I am concerned about the brace removal process, will it hurt? Also do you recommend a fixed or removable retainer?

September 24th, 2012
Q.

Dear Dr Patel, I currently have six months smile braces on and they are due for removal in a few weeks. I am just concerned about the removal process will this hurt? are they pliered / pulled off? will it damage my teeth or leave marks. Also do you recommend a fixed retainer or a removable one? with a fixed retainer is it still ok and easy to floss? will there be any initial movement ? Thank you for your help.

How long will I have to wear a retainer for and can I have a fixed one?

March 30th, 2012
Q.

Hi ADAM. I have been on this site before and asked you about having brace/orthodontic treatment whilst having veneers and fillings. I took your advice and had the treatment done. The braces have worked well so far but I have nearly a year left again I’m not bothered about this. I have a concern though and it regards what happens after. my dentist has told me that afterwards he will make a retainer that I will have to wear every night. the problem is i don’t want one. is there not a fixed one, I’m sure I have heard of it. and also if not do i have to wear the thing the the reat of my life? I cant imagine still putting it in at50? thanks

My dentist wouldn’t give me a fixed retainer and now I have suffered a relapse. What to do?

March 5th, 2012
Q.

Hello Mr Patel. When i was younger i had a brace and had asked for the fixed retainer as i knew i wouldnt stick to the removable one all my life as i should. the dentist at thie time insisted that i ave the removable version and proceeded with this. as you can imagine i was unhappy and didnt stick to it for long as a result in my late twenties my teeth have relapsed back to their original crossed position. I am now looking to have a more modern proceedure to have this fixed and will require the fixed retainer if this is possible. what i wanted to know is whether this treatment will be available after any for of treatment or whether you can only have it post traditional brace? also what are the costs involved in the wire technique? thank you

Should I continue to wear my retainer, even though my teeth have moved slightly?

December 7th, 2011
Q.

Hi Sharon,

I had train track braces when I was 11 (i am now 23) for about one and a half years. When the braces were removed I wore my retainer constantly day and night for a week (as advised) then every night thereafter. In more recent years I have tried to wear it once a week, but sometimes I forget. I have never gone for longer than 4 weeks without wearing it but now it seems my teeth have shifted slightly. Will it help to wear my retainer again every night or will I do more harm than good?

Hope you can help,

My daughter’s teeth have moved after her retainer was tightened incorrectly, what can she do?

November 28th, 2011
Q.

My daughter has had extensive orthodontic work as a child to straigthen and move her top front teeth. Following this she was fitted with a back of teeth fixed brace. This has been fine until recently when it slackened. She has visited the denitist (not the one who had done the work but same practice) and he tightened it. It appears he has tightened it too much and her teeth have shifted leaving a mm gap between her teethy. This has really upset her she has body image issues and I think in part this has been a dental error. my daughter is employed on a 0 hour contact so work isn’t regular and she only gets mimium wage please can you suggest a way forward

Why do I have to wear a retainer and how long would I have to wear it for?

November 2nd, 2011
Q.

hey, OK I have had a brace for nearly two years now, I’m bothered about this as I can see my teeth are nearly done which is nice, I know I will then need to have a retainer after the brace as my dentist has told me. what I don’t understand is why I need a retainer? If my teeth have been moved back to their proper/current position then why would they relapse back into a place that’s no right just to be awkward. I’ve has these braces for a while as the brace had to improve my bite as well as my crooked teeth. surely my mouth will not return to having a bad bite as well? also how long will I have to wear to retainer for I don’t want to have to have it all my life you see? cuold you please advise me on retainers, I would really appreciate to know more about them and where I stand with them, thanks

What’s better for me – fixed or removable braces?

August 24th, 2011
Q.

Hi, Iam hoping that you can help, Iam 23years old and only recently decided to have my open bite corrected. gone to different dentists but they all differ in recommendations…some say temporary braces(retainers?)will work for me…others say permanent ones are better. i also subconsciously thrust/suck my tongue. think that is what caused my teeth to grow that way. what option should i go for? And will a habit breaker at my age help me stop the tongue thrusting?
