My upper jaw is overgrown

July 23rd, 2014
Q.

Hello Doctor, my upper jaw is over-grown,My lower jaw is perfect with aligned teeth. Ive braces on my upper jaw since a year and 6 months. My dentist said it will be fixed within a year however it doesn’t prove to happen. they have improved but are not perfect,as in there’s still a lot of gap. He says if he will exert more pressure,my teeth will be not look good because of my jaw. can you suggest what I should do? Thank you for your help and for your time in advance.

Could I have treatment for my crooked teeth?

November 7th, 2013
Q.

Hello,
I am a 56-year old woman with very crooked front teeth which have got progressively worse over the years, partly due to a phobia of dentists. I have an overbite and my two top front teeth overlap. The lower ones are worse, due to overcrowding, but are not so visible. I live in Paris, but would prefer to have the treatment done in London. Would you be able to give me an idea of cost, type and duration of treatment from an x-ray, please?
Many thanks in advance.
Kind regards,

What braces can my teenage daughter wear?

October 2nd, 2013
Q.

Hi Doctor,
My teenage daughter has been told that she will need to have braces because she has an overbite. She is very upset about this because she is a very shy girl and finds it hard to make friends and talk to people as it is. Out current dentist has told her that the braces will be fixed and she just doesn’t want them and is refusing even to discuss this with us.
I would like to know more information about the braces that are available privately as i do not know much about this subject matter. If she came to your practice what braces would you possibly suggest that are more discreet?

I have a really bad overbite but have been quoted very expensive prices for the work, is there anything else you can suggest?

October 5th, 2012
Q.

I am 24 years old and have had a bad overbite since I was a child due to sucking my thumb; I was never offered orthodontic treatment by my dentist when I was younger. Since turning 18 I have been to several dentists as I hate the appearance of my teeth. I originally requested veneers and paid over £1000 to get the imprints done. After this was done I was told that veneers would not be suitable as my overbite would need to be corrected first and I would need to get a brace. The dentist actually said it was the worst overbite she had ever seen. I have had quotes for a ‘Daemon’ brace as my job is client facing and a metal brace wouldn’t look very appropriate and have been quoted around £4000 for the treatment. My wisdom teeth have also come through and my teeth are very overcrowded and the front teeth seemed to have moved sideways and overlap. I can’t afford this. Is there anything you could suggest? Many thanks.

I have a mild overbite, i am only 16 but how much will it cost me to have braces put on?

August 10th, 2012
Q.

Hello,

I have a mild overbite on my upper (the tooth is at an angle rather than straight down) and under-bite tooth on the bottom layer of teeth. I believe that without the help of braces my overbite will make all allow all of the other teeth in line with that tooth to slant. So far i am not experiencing any issues with the normal functions of the bite. However it does concern me that i will have crooked teeth. Therefore i am requesting braces. Would this option be available? If how much would it cost, i am under the age of 18 (Currently 16) and will be attending sixth form in September, if regarding costs how much do you think it will be in order for me to have them and if so which braces? Again it is only two teeth on the upper jaw line and one on the lower line. It did start out as one but is slowly pushing the other teeth to overlap the next. As i am requesting it will cost, i am aware. As i am requesting will it still be possible or will my dentist say there is no need? I would strongly like to have not full braces as i don’t have really bad teeth although something to straighten then.

Many thanks,

Hope you can get back to me with my questions soon. I have booked an appointment with the consultant.

My son has an overbite, his teeth cut into his gum, but he doesn’t qualify for a brace, how can this be rectified?

May 3rd, 2012
Q.

My son is nearly 13 and has an overbite. He says that his teeth cut into his gums when his mouth is closed and causes a lot of pain at times. His teeth are not too crooked so he would not qaulify for braces. How can this be rectified, can it be done free on the nhs? Can I get insurance anywhere to cover this kind of work for a child? I thought that treatment was free for children on the NHS? Is this not the case? We live in Harrow, are there any orthodentists near me that you can recommend?

I have a large overbite which pulls my bottom jaw back, there is also a large gap between my bottom and top teeth, what should I do?

April 19th, 2012
Q.

Hello, i find it difficult to place my teeth together in a comfortable position, and when they are in their comfiest position i am left with quite a big overbite which pulls my bottom jaw back, it makes my lip stick out and it doesn’t look that nice. Even in this position my teeth do not fit together properly. I usually just close my mouth and do not shut my teeth together. My front teeth do not stick out but there is a large gap between my top and bottom teeth, I can nearly fit my little finger in the gap. When I am sleeping I find it difficult as my jaw just opens and I find I dribble a lot. would it be worthwhile getting a brace fit and would it be the twin block style brace I would have to go for? Thanks

Are my braces progressing as they should?

December 23rd, 2011
Q.

Hi, on Saturday I got my top braces (I’ll be getting the bottom ones later) and my 2nd premolar on the left side (the last tooth with a bracket) has descended a bit, which makes it impossible to bite down on that side, since only that tooth touches the jaw teeth. It is also the most sensitive tooth, I think I might be able to chew more solid food already if it wasn’t for that one tooth. Is it normal and should I just wait until my next consultation (about a month from now) or was it not supposed to happen? If it just sore and I’ll be able to chew with it soon?

Also, my dentist mentioned something about extracting teeth. I’m not sure she’s planning on extracting some or just thinks it’s a possibility, but I don’t have any overcrowding, I just need to fix an overbite and correct my arch. I will probably take my wisdom teeth out, wouldn’t that make room for these adjustments?

Thank you.

I think my dentist is an idiot, he’s done nothing for me what do I do about my teeth now?

December 20th, 2011
Q.

Hi there, let me explain a little about my teeth: I was lucky enough to have all my teeth come in straight, however I never liked my front teeth because they were never completely vertical. They have always been at somewhat of an incline which makes me not like my smile. I was told by an orthodontist that this problem could be corrected and so I got full braces on my top and bottom teeth for two years. However I think this guy was an idiot because having braces did nothing to correct the problem. My front four teeth are still at an incline and they are above the rest of my teeth. Is there anything that can be done?

I have an overbite, how effective and discreet are Lingual braces for this condition?

November 30th, 2011
Q.

Hi. I have a slight open-bite, genetic, and also I was a thumb sucker when I was very little, and wore a brace when I was a young teenager. I also have slight over-crowding in my top and bottom teeth which I would really like tidying up, and am in my 40s.
What do you suggest, and can you help? I like the look of the lingual orthodontic as it seems much more discreet. Do you offer 3D pictures to give me an idea as to what my teeth could look like?
