Will I have to pay for my braces?

November 12th, 2014
Q.

Hi,
i’m 18 in November and i’m being referred to a orthodontist on the 18th of September will I need to pay for my braces? or will I still get them on the NHS?
I have one too majorly out of line (too far into my mouth) and its causing problems that’s why my dentist recommended braces but I’m not too sure if I could afford to pay for braces since I’m still in full time education. Any information that you could give me would be great.
thanks for your help.

Do I need fixed braces or can I have Invisalign aligners?

November 6th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr,
I would like to have Invisalign braces because they are not very obvious looking, but my current dentist says that I need fixed braces. I only have three crooked teeth on my lower mouth at the front so I can’t see why I need a fixed brace. My dentist doent do Invisalign so perhaps this is why. But in your opinion do you think that I qualify for Invisalign treatment? Thanks and I know its hard to tell without seeing my mouth yourself, but any help would really be appreciated.

My retainers cause me gum pain

November 3rd, 2014
Q.

I’ve had braces for about a year and a half from 28th march 2012 to 8th September 2013 however, I have not been wearing my retainers for after treatment due to them hurting my gums but I wore them for 9 months and stopped. Now that I do not wear my retainers I have noticed that my teeth are slowly moving back which are causing me to have pains. I do wish to have braces again, but would like to know if I would pay and how much itll cost me. I am currently 17 and a student at college.

Is there any help pr advice that you can give me so that I can sort things out and get the help that I need for my teeth? Thanks in advance

Why am I getting headaches and jaw pain?

January 6th, 2014
Q.

I get a lot of headaches and my jaw aches a lot, I have an overbite and some of my teeth overlap slightly. What should I do? Do I need braces? If so, will I get them free on the nhs or will I have to go private and pay? My schoolwork is getting distracted because I have headaches all the time, and I know it’s from my teeth because the source of the pain is in my jaw. What can I say to my dentist?

Can you recommend a good dentist in London?

December 9th, 2013
Q.

Hello Doctor,
I have recently moved to the UK from Canada and would like to find out the best place to get braces for my son who is 15. In Canada we only has the option of a fixed highly viisble braces which he was not happy with. His top teeth are crooked as are the front teeth on the bottom set of teeth. We live in Surrey and I dont really know many people here to ask about the best dentist to go to or how the process works. Would you be able to tell me the best places in the Surrey or London area where i can take my son for an evaluation and a place that has a variety of braces, not just metal ones? Yours in thanks,
James

Am I too old for braces?

December 9th, 2013
Q.

Hello,
I am 45 and I believe that I am too old to have braces? I am lucky enough to be getting married next year in the Bahamas and my teeth have always been the bane of my life. They are crooked at the front on the bottom of my teeth. I really would like to surprise my husband to be with a brand new smile and I would like to feel confident on my big day. If I cannot have braces are there any other treatments I can have to make my teeth look straight? Obviously I would like to smile on my bid day and feel beautiful.Thank you doctor for giving your time, take care,

Could I have treatment for my crooked teeth?

November 7th, 2013
Q.

Hello,
I am a 56-year old woman with very crooked front teeth which have got progressively worse over the years, partly due to a phobia of dentists. I have an overbite and my two top front teeth overlap. The lower ones are worse, due to overcrowding, but are not so visible. I live in Paris, but would prefer to have the treatment done in London. Would you be able to give me an idea of cost, type and duration of treatment from an x-ray, please?
Many thanks in advance.
Kind regards,

I don’t think my aligners are working

November 7th, 2013
Q.

Hello there,
I am currently wearing clear aligners and have been for the past three months but I am getting worried that they are not working. I have seen no movement at all even when i use the next set of aligners every few weeks. i asked my dentist and he said that there is minimal movement at the start and to be patient but as they are so expensive I am concerned that I have chosen the wrong kind of braces. Is there anyway that I could ask to change braces or would I have to pay fthe full amount for these and another kind of brace? i think I want fixed braces as i would feel more secure knowing they are definitely moving my teeth. is this normal to have no movement yet?
