Is there any way to get free braces or at a cheaper price as I don’t qualify anymore?

November 22nd, 2012
Q.

I was waiting from the age of 13 to 17 for braces for one reason to the next! I finally get a chance about 4 months before my 18th birthday & then get told I can’t have braces for free because my teeth aren’t 4mm out, or something but I am so self concious, I don’t smile & when I laugh I try to cover my teeth, they are horrible ! & I’m only 18 so can’t afford to pay for baraces whatsoever, im so upset about this & it was all my dentist fault not nothing & hurrying me up before that silly rule came in! ! Is there anyway I can get them for free ? I wouldn’t normally try and get stuff on the cheap but i feel like i have been played by my dentist do this would be the case then I would have to pay!! thank you in advance

I need braces but don’t want to wear them at social events, what are the alternatives?

November 20th, 2012
Q.

Hi there! i am interested in straightening out my teeth but i am not keen on wearing braces to social events,

is there an alternative?

My lower jaw teeth are crooked, the top set are not so much an issue.

I read somewhere that you can get braces aligned to the backs of the teeth, would this mean they do not show from the front?

my question is apparently too short to be published and i have ran out of ways to elaborate without putting the audience to sleep haha so I hope this sends

thanks for your time Mr Patel.

How much does it cost for tooth contouring and can it help with a gappy smile?

November 20th, 2012
Q.

Sorry, I have a couple of questions. Firstly, how much would it cost to have pointy teeth ‘shaved’ down and reshaped? Secondly, I read somewhere about ‘contouring’ — where small gaps between crooked teeth can be filled. How much would that cost? My canines are really pointy, as are the teeth between the canines and the front two, because they have been twisted around due to overcrowding. It would be these four teeth that I would like fixed. Also, I have a lot of problems with my jaw (possibly TMJ) and I think my crooked, overcrowded teeth have been caused/worsened by my jaw problems. Is there any treatment available on the NHS that could be used to fix these problems. For example, tooth extraction followed by basic braces? Is it ever possible to get NHS help for other types of braces, or are basic metal braces the only ones they will pay for?

I’ve been referred to have my wisdom teeth out, i also have an under bite that i want sorting out, what are my options?

October 12th, 2012
Q.

I have been referred to have wisdom teeth out as the lower left is on the jawbone. I asked my dentist a year ago about this as I was concerned my teeth would move and would affect how straight they were. I also have an underbite and my bottom front teeth have been moving since the wisdom teeth started to come through- now these have moved forward making the underbite more noticeable again. For a few years now I was at an edge to edge bite for the front teeth but this is now changing. Just wondering what my options are as I am 23 now but am really not happy with my teeth. I am really conscious of the underbite, more so now that my bottom teeth have moved, I know I can have an operation on the jaw but want to avoid that? Thanks

Q.

I’m 22 and my 2 upper front teeth point out forward quite allot and it really gets me down and i have lost a lot of confidence in myself.i dont want braces and i would not be able to afford them anyway and was wondering if its possible to have them extracted and replaced with a fixed bridge?? and how much would the whole treatment cost if that was possible and also if you could recommend somewhere where i could have it done and how long it would be before i could have it done. i have never had cosmetic dentistry before so i don’t really know much about it .Thanks!

I am concerned about the brace removal process, will it hurt? Also do you recommend a fixed or removable retainer?

September 24th, 2012
Q.

Dear Dr Patel, I currently have six months smile braces on and they are due for removal in a few weeks. I am just concerned about the removal process will this hurt? are they pliered / pulled off? will it damage my teeth or leave marks. Also do you recommend a fixed retainer or a removable one? with a fixed retainer is it still ok and easy to floss? will there be any initial movement ? Thank you for your help.

My front teeth stick out and my bottom teeth are crammed together, will a brace sort this out?

September 24th, 2012
Q.

My two front teeth kinda stick out and I think its cause I used to suck on my thumb when I was young. My teeth aren’t horrible but my front teeth kinda bother me. They arnt crooked they are just in front of the other teeth and aren’t aligned in the same how they should be. Also my bottom teeth are crammed together so I was wondering if braces would fix my front teeth and bottom. If braces can’t fix my front teeth is there any other way I can get them to look better? Also on one of my front tooth I had chipped so I got if fixed and a little piece is fake can I still get braces? If I can get braces how long would you think I need them for?

I’m not keen on braces so what options are available to correct my tooth that isn’t straight?

August 30th, 2012
Q.

My front tooth is angulated to approx 30 degrees. I would like to consider what options are available to correct this and how do i get this corrected in the quickest way? (and at what cost?) not keen on braces. In addition, i would like my teeth to be whitened after this problem is corrected. what options are also available for this?
I would be most grateful if you could help with this.
Thanks.
Amar

My top wisdom teeth are pointing outwards, they are not causing any pain but they just rub against my cheek, what should i do?

August 30th, 2012
Q.

Alright Darsh, My top two wisdom teeth are almost completely through, they are pointing outwards, towards my cheeks. They are not causing me any pain or discomfort but i wanted to see if there are any braces available to straighten wisdom teeth. I thought because they are far back in my mouth, a plate would not be possible as it might be quite uncomfortable? As i said it doesn’t hurt but it’s just a little annoying them pointing outwards and rubbing on my cheek. I would look into having them taken out, but is this not quite major dental work? I’d obviously prefer to just have some kind of brace. Thanks for your help!
