I have a few issues with my teeth, am I still able to have a brace fitted?

May 10th, 2012
Q.

Hi Darsh.
My question is about whether or not I actually can have braces. I had overcrowding problems as a teenager, and after examining my teeth I can see that the dentist has extracted my lower left first premolar and my lower right lateral incisor. Therefore, my bottom teeth aren’t symmetrical. I also have two wisdom teeth that have impacted at an awkward angle. I’m not concerned about my lower teeth, I’m looking to have my upper teeth corrected. My upper teeth are symmetrical but not straight. Before I book a consultation, do these previous extractions on my lower teeth disqualify me for orthodontic treatment or make it more difficult/expensive? Thank you.

My son has an overbite, his teeth cut into his gum, but he doesn’t qualify for a brace, how can this be rectified?

May 3rd, 2012
Q.

My son is nearly 13 and has an overbite. He says that his teeth cut into his gums when his mouth is closed and causes a lot of pain at times. His teeth are not too crooked so he would not qaulify for braces. How can this be rectified, can it be done free on the nhs? Can I get insurance anywhere to cover this kind of work for a child? I thought that treatment was free for children on the NHS? Is this not the case? We live in Harrow, are there any orthodentists near me that you can recommend?

I have a large overbite which pulls my bottom jaw back, there is also a large gap between my bottom and top teeth, what should I do?

Q.

Hello, i find it difficult to place my teeth together in a comfortable position, and when they are in their comfiest position i am left with quite a big overbite which pulls my bottom jaw back, it makes my lip stick out and it doesn’t look that nice. Even in this position my teeth do not fit together properly. I usually just close my mouth and do not shut my teeth together. My front teeth do not stick out but there is a large gap between my top and bottom teeth, I can nearly fit my little finger in the gap. When I am sleeping I find it difficult as my jaw just opens and I find I dribble a lot. would it be worthwhile getting a brace fit and would it be the twin block style brace I would have to go for? Thanks

After having the Damon brace, I lost my removable retainer. My teeth are moving back, what should I do?

April 19th, 2012
Q.

Hello Mr Patel. I had treatment on my teeth nearly a year ago. I had the Damon brace which was excellent. My teeth were really lovely in around a year or so.I then had the removable retainer as I didn’t know the fixed one existed- I was never informed of this from my dentist which I am, a bit miffed off about. Anyway I lost my retainer like a wollop and never ordered a new one thinking it would be OK. it’s been a good while now and I’ve noticed that my teeth have moved out of position- as if to start moving back to where they were before!! they obviously haven’t moved much yet as you can imagine. what would be the best course of action regarding treatment now? would I have to have a brace again or is there not something that can be done to fix them and then have the fixed retainer? thank you very much.

Can I have traditional metal braces to close gaps and correct my bite?

April 4th, 2012
Q.

hi Adam, I have few gaps between my teeth and i would like the old style metal braces, the bottom row of my teeth is fairly straight and neat enough. I sometimes have this funny feeling when I am swallowing, my jaws feel like hey are dislocated. I havent been o my dentist as I dont feel she is very helpful or even care to be honest. Roughly how much would it cost and how long will I need to wear them for?

How long will I have to wear a retainer for and can I have a fixed one?

March 30th, 2012
Q.

Hi ADAM. I have been on this site before and asked you about having brace/orthodontic treatment whilst having veneers and fillings. I took your advice and had the treatment done. The braces have worked well so far but I have nearly a year left again I’m not bothered about this. I have a concern though and it regards what happens after. my dentist has told me that afterwards he will make a retainer that I will have to wear every night. the problem is i don’t want one. is there not a fixed one, I’m sure I have heard of it. and also if not do i have to wear the thing the the reat of my life? I cant imagine still putting it in at50? thanks

I think I will look a bit daft if I get braces in my thirties. Can you advise?

March 9th, 2012
Q.

Hello Sir,. could you please lay to rest the fears i now have about braces. I have wanted them for a while now but I never wanted the train tracks. As a thirty one year old i feel lI would look a bit daft with them on and I here they take the longest of any treatment. I have been trying to research about things like and Inman Aligner and Invisalign but Have e found a lot of horror stories about both and also stories about how they’ve not worked or lined bottom teeth up with the top etc. what would you say about these types of brace treatment, are they reliable and do they give the correct and desired results? thank you

Does teeth whitening come included in the price of getting a brace or not?

February 24th, 2012
Q.

MR Maini. I am looking to get orthodontic treatment at some point in the next few months and will need a consultation with a specialist at some point I know. I was thinking that if i have the traditional braces i will need some form of tooth whitening after the treatment had finished but if i have six month smiles or a damon brace that are considerably quicker would i still need this kind of treatment? if i do have to have this treatment would i have to pay extra or would it be included in the initial price? I anticipate your response Dr thank you

Should I have Six month smiles or Invisalign to fix my crooked teeth?

February 17th, 2012
Q.

Hi Anoop. I had braces just over a year ago but had them removed just over a year into my treatment because they had clearly made no effect on my teeth what so ever. I know this because the impressions on my old gum shield were exactly the same as those made in putty after this duration of time of treatment. I was really miffed off considering my teeth were only crossed- and not to the greatest extent I might add. I was wondering if i would be a good candidate for Invisalign or six month smiles with mildly crossed teeth? or will my previous treatment have jeopardised this? thanks
