Can I just get my top teeth straightened?

January 8th, 2013
Q.

Hello, I do wonder if you can help, for years I have wanted a straight smile and now being 19 and going into the performing industry I really need my teeth straightening, however I have a small overbite and the last time I tried to go for a brace was when I was 14 and they gave me this metal palette upper and lower to move my jaw in place before I had the train tracks, but at 14, I couldnt speak with this brace in my mouth it was horrible and i never ended up proceeding the treatment, I was wondering if i was to have a brace, could I possibly not move my jaw and just get my top teeth straightened? I’m a student, and worried about fees too so I need to keep it cost effecient but still i need to straighten them. Would be excellent to hear back from you, and your advice + suggestions. Thankyou very much , Demi Jay

Would I have to have my protruding canine removed before proceeding with braces?

December 7th, 2012
Q.

hi there adam, my problem is that i have a very twisted tooth the protrudes (canine) and the rest of my teeth are slightly out of place…i think i can get them fixed with braces. As i am 24 i’ want private treatment, i like the NHS but don’t like the look of the fixed braces. Do you think the canine would have to be removed before i have the braces? I’m really hoping some private treatments can help me! I’m due for an appointment next week but i am petrified of needles…i don’t want to have it extracted. Any advice would be great. thank you for your time.

Can you tell me about the new Smart Bracket Braces? Which brace should I choose?

May 18th, 2012
Q.

Hey there! I’ve heard about these new smart bracket braces? I don’t really understand how they work, can you explain? I looked on the internet and couldn’t really find anything, with that in mind i’m not a great user of the web! They look the same as a normal metal brace? With the introduction of invisalign surely people will go for that instead of an unsightly metal brace, I sure would anyway! I’m currently deciding as to which brace to go for, if the new brace system is a lot quicker then i might be persuaded to go for that one! Between invisalign and the smart bracket which do you think is the most practicle? I did think about lingual braces but i have heard quite a few negative reviews about these! Let me know what your thoughts are! Thanks you!

I have a few issues with my teeth, am I still able to have a brace fitted?

May 10th, 2012
Q.

Hi Darsh.
My question is about whether or not I actually can have braces. I had overcrowding problems as a teenager, and after examining my teeth I can see that the dentist has extracted my lower left first premolar and my lower right lateral incisor. Therefore, my bottom teeth aren’t symmetrical. I also have two wisdom teeth that have impacted at an awkward angle. I’m not concerned about my lower teeth, I’m looking to have my upper teeth corrected. My upper teeth are symmetrical but not straight. Before I book a consultation, do these previous extractions on my lower teeth disqualify me for orthodontic treatment or make it more difficult/expensive? Thank you.

I’m not sure if it’s worth fixing the gap in my teeth or not?

March 16th, 2012
Q.

Hi
I just got back from the dentist and she said my teeth are fine except there is a tiny gap in between my teeth do you think it’s worth getting braces? I meant to ask him before I left but forgot as we got talking about my gums. Apparently you look really bad with braces and I don’t want to look bad in front of my friends or when I go out and I’m worried that if I don’t get braces it will get worse and instead of having them for 6 months I’ll have them for a year and half

Is it possible to have a brace without the need for tooth extraction?

February 17th, 2012
Q.

Hi I have long considered braces as my teeth have overlapped, I am currently 24 and as such I belive I have stopped growing and I dont intend on putting masses of weight on so my teeth should stay pretty much where they are now. I have been looking at the procedure involved when having braces and I am not overly keen on having a tooth out. Im no dentist but after looking at the size and distance of/between teeth I dont think I need it. I’m sure there is a name for this procedure. could you recall it for me if I am right, If not could you please advise me, thanks a lot, it’s appreciated.

Are my braces progressing as they should?

December 23rd, 2011
Q.

Hi, on Saturday I got my top braces (I’ll be getting the bottom ones later) and my 2nd premolar on the left side (the last tooth with a bracket) has descended a bit, which makes it impossible to bite down on that side, since only that tooth touches the jaw teeth. It is also the most sensitive tooth, I think I might be able to chew more solid food already if it wasn’t for that one tooth. Is it normal and should I just wait until my next consultation (about a month from now) or was it not supposed to happen? If it just sore and I’ll be able to chew with it soon?

Also, my dentist mentioned something about extracting teeth. I’m not sure she’s planning on extracting some or just thinks it’s a possibility, but I don’t have any overcrowding, I just need to fix an overbite and correct my arch. I will probably take my wisdom teeth out, wouldn’t that make room for these adjustments?

Thank you.
