Brace options and crowns in mouth overhaul before son’s wedding

February 17th, 2012
Q.

Hello Darsh. I have been investigating into different methods of orthodontics available to me. I will be attending my sons wedding in just under a year. after recently fixing problems between us I have now vowed to turn myself around for him, how embarassing would it be for his dad to look a scruff at his wedding “who’s that?…” “…my dad!” no. I’ve recently had surgery myself so i was wondering what would be the best- and for me that’s the least invasive treatment for overlapped teeth. they are not that over lapped but due the colour they were they looked horrible. I have had extensive cleaning done at the dentists and my teeth whitened a shade (I didnt spend to much time on this as I’d have to do it again after a brace, it just helps in a meantime i guess). I also need a crown but don’t know whether to do this after or before. I’m so nearly there. I’ll just need a hair cut and a shave nearer the time and he’ll be proud!!! thanks for your help.

Can I have braces to move my teeth, even though I have a bridge?

January 16th, 2012
Q.

Dear experts, hello I am 21 and my teeth are in a pretty bad shape due to lack of treamtnet and general looking after them over the last few years. I have lots of fillings in my back teeth and have some bridge work at the front of my mouth as my eye teeth never grew. I would just like to know If I could have braces despite the filling work and the bridges, and is there a particular brace i cannot ave as a result? also would I need further cosmetic treatment to improve my smile thats available full stop, as I would like to be able to smile and laugh without being conscious of my bad teeth. Many thanks

Would I be better going to a private clinic or an NHS dentist for a brace?

November 8th, 2011
Q.

Hi there Dr Hutchinson I have used this site and been on your personal site through this several times. I previously asked you a question about another issue I had with braces and found your information very helpful …so I’m back, hope you don’t mind 😀 I am twenty-one and my HC1 certificate has just expired but I don’t think this would’ve actually helped me in terms of paying/not paying for braces anyway. Naturally like a tool I now decide to have braces- but purely because this is the best time for me to do so, I have been thinking though would it be better to have braces fitted at a NHS dentist regardless of the fact that I will have to pay or better to go to a private clinic to receive treatment? would there be much difference in terms of quality of the final outcome treatments involved and the cost of having the treatment done in the first place? what would you recommend and what would you look at in terms of clinics when trying to choose one? thanks

I have an uneven gum line. What can i do about it?

September 21st, 2011
Q.

I was just wondering if you could in brief describe the differences for different braces and what they are most suited to. basically my upper latteral incisors start a much higher line than the rest of my teeth in this kind of pattern _|–|_| |_|–|_ I was wondering if there was anything I could do to sort them out/pull them down? I am worried that even if I have them pulled down there will be large gaps remaining between them and my incisors (central) and will need further corrective treatment or do you think this could all be done in one procedure? so my first question becomes which do you think is best for me?

My over-the-top dentist says I have the start of gum disease. Wouldn’t braces make it worse?

September 14th, 2011
Q.

hello, my dentist said i have the start of gum disease but hasnt done anything about it, they dont bleed when i brush or floss only sometimes like when im ill or when im due on my period, im also on the contreceptive pill which could also be why i have red gums. Also I have always had quite dark gums since being in primary school im 18 now. Well im due at the othodontist next week and was wondering wouldnt having braces make it worse? They didnt suspect any gum disease when they checked my mouth, im just very worried. My dentist sometimes is a little over the top

Can I get braces on the NHS at 21?

August 1st, 2011
Q.

I’m 21, and I have crooked teeth. My top teeth overlap my bottom teeth, and some are damaged as I can’t brush properly, as some teeth are twisted over others. My dentist said my case was moderate, and that she wasn’t sure whether I would qualify for braces on the NHS. As time goes on, my teeth are just getting more damaged, its becoming uncomfortable eating certain foods and my confidence is in pieces. I’m on benefits at the minute, and I can’t afford expensive treatments. I would happily settle for plain old train tracks for 3 years. Is there any way I can get my teeth sorted out?
Thank you

What is the best treatment for a protruding bottom jaw?

July 11th, 2011
Q.

Hello doctor,

could you please tell me the best course of action for treating a protruding bottom jaw?my bottom teeth protrude over my front by about 1.5 mm and although that doesn’t sound a lot, im sure you know it can make a world of difference to a smile. My top teeth are also slightly crooked, not much but i would also like to treat that if possible?
What would you suggest doctor?

thank you for your time and any advice you can give
