My lateral incisors cross over to my front teeth, will a brace sort this out?

July 13th, 2012
Q.

Hi Darsh, I have a slight problem with my top row of teeth. All the back ones are fine, but my lateral incisors cross over to my front two teeth. This obviously doesn’t look great but cleaning is also another problem I have, with it being very hard to get in between the gap and a build up of plaque starts to develop. I should of has this problem sorted when I was younger but I never bothered too. I really want to get it sorted now, is there a brace that will sort this problem out? They overlap quite a bit so I didn’t know if this problem could be fixed with a brace or if I would have to have them taken out and replaced with dentures? Look forward to hearing from you!

What can I do to straighten my front tooth after a slight relapse?

March 5th, 2012
Q.

Hi Adam.
I am 33 years old, and have 2 children. After my 2nd child i noticed my front tooth starting to overlap the other front one.
I had fixed braces when I was 12, and did have lovely teeth.
Now that they have changed I really notice it especially in photographs.
I used to be quite proud of my teeth but now I feel I’m losing confidence.
I do have a retainer to wear for an hour a day, but they were already twisted so don’t think it really works, what can I do to straighten my front tooth????

What options would you recommend for mild overlapping?

March 5th, 2012
Q.

-Dear expert- I am twenty four and am toying with the idea of having braces. I think though they may be a bit of an overkill considering the condition of my teeth. my bottom teeth have a slight overlap whilst the upper teeth have a slightly lesser overlap. In all without being able to see them they arent very bad and i had thought that a brace would have been a bit too much to go through to have this fixed. You can see my issue? I dont want to have 18 months to two years treatment in order to fix something that isnt that broken? what options would you recommend for straightening mild overlapping? thanks

What kind of treatment should I expect for overlapping teeth?

December 12th, 2011
Q.

Hi Ian I thought Id ask you this as you are a specialist. I need braces and am not bothered which set I end up with really although if its possible I would like to avoid train track braces (if not I’m not bothered but it would be nice to do so). the problem I have is tha my lower teeth are much more overlapped than my upper teeth which are only mildly crossed, the thing is if i leave them longer the top teeth will just become more overlapped so I decided to take action quickly. what I want to know is whether the fact that the to arches are clearly at varying degrees of overlapping would be a problem. will i end up with the top brace being taken off and keeping the botom one on for longer or what? cheers Dr

Would getting braces for my overlapping teeth make my teeth grinding any worse?

December 6th, 2011
Q.

Hello Adam, I have been told by my dentist that a tingly feeling in my gums is due to the fact that i grind my teeth in the night. this in turn has caused the teeth to have some mobility and as such he has given me a gum shield type thing to wear when I sleep. I was wondering though because i have pondered about having braces to fix my overlapped teeth for some time, would this affect the chances of me getting one? i thought about it and thought it could either be good as the braces could move the teeth with less resistance or bad as it could just make matters worse. what would you say? and will my teeth regain retention or will they always be wobbly?

What is the best brace to treat overlapping teeth?

November 9th, 2011
Q.

I am 16 in the UK, Lancaster in full time education and I am desperate for braces. On my top teeth I have an incisor that is angled forward and on my bottom teeth, I have over lapping teeth. I have only spoken to my dentist about it once and he said it would cost about £2,500. I haven’t been to see an orthodontist as my mum is dead set on my not having braces but recently I have noticed them to be getting worse and I am feeling really self conscious about it. I just wondered if there is any advice you can give me about getting other opinions and advice! Thank you

Why has my orthodontist tightened my bottom wire and placed lumps of glue behind my teeth?

October 27th, 2011
Q.

Hello,
I haver had my braces on for just over a year now, and i had a check up earlier this week and my orthodontist said I was very close to being finished, and she tightened my bottom wire, and put two lumps of glue onto the back of my top teeth.
What exactly does this do, and how does it help? Does it make the teeth and bite move faster? It is very uncomfortable, and hard to eat!
Thank you very much.

Can braces close gaps and fix crooked teeth at the same time?

October 12th, 2011
Q.

I am 67 and wanted to sort out my teeth so my grand kids will remember me to be a perfect bill of health. they are crooked but don’t overlap because many of them have gaps. I wanted to know if braces could sort out both gaps and crooked teeth at the same time? I’ve looked at my teeth and there definitely wouldn’t be gaps if they were closer there’s still plenty of tooth there. there is I think a number if issues with doing this at my age one being time, I need to do this as quickly as possible and secondly at a reasonable budget. do you know of any financial help I could receive?
which system would be best for me based on what you know?

Is it only metal braces available on the NHS? How long would treatment time be?

October 3rd, 2011
Q.

I am trying to get braces for my child he needs them, he is currently 15 and had crossed teeth which are pretty bad, ive looked at your case studies on this website and was impressed with the way the teenage boys have turned out (the third case study on there) as my boy is in a similar point right now i wanted to know how long they would take to get to that point of being straight when they are overlapped and the gum line is uneven my son does not have an overlap/bite. what braces can i get that would sort this out are available on the NHS or is it just the traditional braces that are? i know you cannot be exactly sure but an estimate of how long it would take also would be amazing thank you

Am I too old for corrective treatment?

September 28th, 2011
Q.

am i to old for braces? im currently 60 years young and have just retired, i now have all the time in the world and a small stash to get by on, im happy to commit the next two or three years to sorting my teeth out if it means having the rest of my days with straight teeth. my gums and teeth are all there, all mine and in good condition they just have a slight overlap on both the top and bottom. what would be the best brace to sort this out or is there one inparticularly? which for example would be the quickest and which would provide the best looks or again would they achieve the same thing? that way i can compare?
