My son has been told he needs a removable brace, he is adamant in not wearing one because other children have been teased and found them painful and hard to talk, is there another way?

Hi,my son has been told he needs the removable braces that have a metal wire in front of teeth for 9 months.He has a bite gap of 11mm,and both front teeth are like side of a triangle.He knows children at his school which have had these,and have been teased,also painful and hard to talk.Is ther any way he could just wear the railway track braces only.What will happen to bite gap when older?.Can teeth be taken out instead.He is adamant in not wearing the removable braces;but will put up with the railway ones.Please help.

I have a large overbite which pulls my bottom jaw back,there is also a large gap between my bottom and top teeth, what should I do?

Hello, i find it difficult to place my teeth together in a comfortable position, and when they are in their comfiest position i am left with quite a big overbite which pulls my bottom jaw back, it makes my lip stick out and it doesn’t look that nice. Even in this position my teeth do not fit together properly. I usually just close my mouth and do not shut my teeth together. My front teeth do not stick out but there is a large gap between my top and bottom teeth, I can nearly fit my little finger in the gap. When I am sleeping I find it difficult as my jaw just opens and I find I dribble a lot. would it be worthwhile getting a brace fit and would it be the twin block style brace I would have to go for? After having my brace off, I stopped wearing my pre-finisher and my teeth have become slanted. Can I still wear it if it fits?

Hi, It has been five years since I took off my braces, I was given an appliance called pre-finisher. I wore it for about two weeks but then stopped as I had college and found it not practical to wear. However my teeth have gone slanted since I stopped wearing them and my smile looks bent. I just wanted to ask that after five years of not wearing them, they still fit in; I was wondering if I should start wearing them again after this long gap? or would that not be beneficial and cause them to go even more slanted? I always wanted to mention that now my jaw clicks which I have not had before braces. Please advise me as to the best way to go about this problem.

After having the Damon brace, I lost my removable retainer. My teeth are moving back, what should I do?

Hello Mr Patel. I had treatment on my teeth nearly a year ago. I had the Damon brace which was excellent. My teeth were really lovely in around a year or so.I then had the removable retainer as I didn’t know the fixed one existed- I was never informed of this from my dentist which I am, a bit miffed off about. Anyway I lost my retainer like a wollop and never ordered a new one thinking it would be OK. it’s been a good while now and I’ve noticed that my teeth have moved out of position- as if to start moving back to where they were before!! they obviously haven’t moved much yet as you can imagine. what would be the best course of action regarding treatment now? would I have to have a brace again or is there not something that can be done to fix them and then have the fixed retainer? thank you very much.

I received my orthodontist referral too late and have incurred a charge. What should I do?

I have a big problem with my teeth, I hate smiling because theyre are just too many teeth in my mouth. They are all out of line and since I was 12 Ive been told I would need braces. In 2009 at the age of 17 my dentist referred me to an orthodontist but I never heard anything or received a letter. I have always asked about it but the dentist has fobbed me off so when I went in 2 weeks ago I complained and insisted that they investigate why I heard nothing. I lost my job recently and am currently on jobseekers allowance. I got a letter yesterday stating I have been referred to the orthodontist I was supposed to have been referred to in 2009 but now I am 19 they are insisting I pay a non-refundable £55 cost for my first consultation which I cannot afford. I was wondering how I should go about explaining that my dentist was supposed to have referred me almost 3 years ago. I absolutely hate my teeth and smile so would appreciate some professional help. Would you be able to fix my crooked front and bottom teeth in six months?

Dr.Patel, I have been researching the “Six-Month Smile” and seeing your case studies and reading up on you, I hope you can help me! But…I may be a challenge. I had braces twice in my life; in my teens and again early 20’s. I am now 50 and notice my front top teeth moving, and the bottom 4 front have always been crooked. Can you fix them in 6 months? And the challenge of all… is that I live in the Caribbean! But, I travel to the UK twice a year. I plan to be there for 6 weeks from mid-June. If I send you pictures, can you look and perhaps help me. As I get older, my face is not as full, and my teeth more prominent and I want to at least age with a pretty smile!

I know I have to pay for treatment but can I have alternative orthodontic systems at an NHS dentist?

hello I was wondering what treatments you can receive on the NHS. I have been told you stop receiving the right to have braces for free on the NHS when your 16 but does that mean only fixed braces? I am looking to get braces and upon learning that I would not be able to have them on the NHS (at which point I was willing to have traditional train tracks) I decided to look at what braces are available to align crooked teeth. turns out theres a few and thats why sites like this are up no doubt. If I were to go to a NHS dentist- whetherI haed to pay or not, would I be able to receive any alternative treatments or do they only do traintracks? if so I will go private as to get what I want if im paying for It, and secondly whilst im here are there any benefits of having it done on the NHS or are there advantages of going pivate that outweigh those of the NHS treatment? thanks for any response.

What would be the best system to fix concave shapes on the sides of my arch?

Hi Adam, I have thought about braces for some time now as my upper arch has a sort of concave shape to from my premolars to my the teeth behind my canines like a ‘n’ with collapsed sides sort of thing. I want to know whether or not a brace can sort this out and what would be the best type of brace to use should I have the option? as a secondary thought I would like whatever system to be the quickest possible, just incase that changes anything. thank you for taking the time to read this.

Hello Anoop. I have looked at various methods and brace types in terms of orthodontics now for some time and have pondered and dilly dallied all the time also! I am now trying to get to get together a plan of action so I can get this done. I have looked at invisible braces as a nice aesthetic option when I stumbled upon the six month smiles. what I wanted to know was whether or not they are a great option? by this I was wondering that as they fix teeth in six months then why isn’t everyone who has braces not having this treatment. would you consider it a goo treatment worth having?
