What treatment can I have for my chipped tooth so I can wear a brace?

January 23rd, 2013
Q.

When I was about 13 I chipped my front tooth and because I was so young my dentist put porcelain over it and over another tooth that was supposedly chipped. Now being 19 the porcelain has chipped a little and, being originally discoloured but is now very discoloured . I want the unnecessary porcelain taken off my one canine and a cap on my front tooth and my teeth whitened.I need the crown to cover my chipped tooth. Would i then be able to have a brace? I will be getting my teeth whitened but I don’t know whether I can a) have the crown before the brace and b) have the tooth whitening before or after. For such a seemingly small problem I am having to go through all this, could you please pass me any knowledge of this situation? thankyou

Can I just get my top teeth straightened?

January 8th, 2013
Q.

Hello, I do wonder if you can help, for years I have wanted a straight smile and now being 19 and going into the performing industry I really need my teeth straightening, however I have a small overbite and the last time I tried to go for a brace was when I was 14 and they gave me this metal palette upper and lower to move my jaw in place before I had the train tracks, but at 14, I couldnt speak with this brace in my mouth it was horrible and i never ended up proceeding the treatment, I was wondering if i was to have a brace, could I possibly not move my jaw and just get my top teeth straightened? I’m a student, and worried about fees too so I need to keep it cost effecient but still i need to straighten them. Would be excellent to hear back from you, and your advice + suggestions. Thankyou very much , Demi Jay

Should we change dentist so that my daughter can get orthodontic help?

January 8th, 2013
Q.

Hi there, my daughter has just turned ten years old and has just stopped sucking her thumb. My current dentist says that her jaw is still forming and all the appropriate teeth have not come in yet. He does not offer a brace facility but would refer me to one.Is it wise for all the family to move to another dentist where the dentist treats kids on the NHS if a brace may be required and for my husband and myself to go private as we are now? I am just thinking for the future as she has sucked her thumb for so long.

I am uncertain about my lingual braces

January 8th, 2013
Q.

After having undergone 6 months of social 6 lingual brace treatment I have found the results to be disappointing & believe that my case was a little too severe for such an appliance. I am now looking into getting a full arch lingual brace to correct alignment & crowding problems. In order to achieve this it’s evident that the arch on my left side needs to be expanded outwards (from my canine back) to create a more rounded/arched shape & in doing so create space to alleviate the crowding of my canine & lateral incisor & as a result allow correct alignment. My question is can the full arch lingual brace perform this sort of correction or would I be better off going with an arch expander first to correct the arch shape & then the lingual brace to align everything as desired? With thanks.

How much would braces be to treat my cross bite?

January 8th, 2013
Q.

Hello Adam, I’m just wondering I have a few gaps between my teeth at the bottom I was also told I had a cross bite I’m paranoid about the gaps and I’m thinking of having braces to close the gaps up but only on the bottom how much would I be looking to pay ? I did mention to my dentist about the NHS but he says I’m too old even though he saw me when I was 18 and didn’t really do anything, or do you have any other advice ?

Many thanks  and I look forward to hearing from you over this matter as it is starting to get me down.

Why are my adult teeth moving out of position and what can be done to straighten them?

January 4th, 2013
Q.

Hello Dr Patel.
I’ve been noticing some change with my teeth recently as some of the top and bottom teeth are moving and becoming dislodged slightly and its causing the other teeth to move out of place and i’m afraid soon, all my teeth with of moved out of place and have all become crooked. Do you think I need a brace to straighten them out or do you think removing one of the teeth to give the others more room would help. If you think a brace is the answer i’m concerned about what affect this will have on my work life. Do you know of any less noticeable braces? Also, could you shed some light on why this might be happening now at 34? Thank you
