I know its kind of weird but it has defo had an affect on the way my front teeth are and i would really love to get treatment to straighten them. However, im guessing the problem could come back so is there anything that can be done to stop it happening again?

Where can I find a NHS dentist were I can get braces?

July 19th, 2011
Q.

On this website site www.braces.org.uk it says that adults can get braces on the NHS for around £200 (the train track version) however I can’t seem to find a dentist that does braces on the NHS. I was wondering if you’d be able to advise me on dentists that do braces on the NHS around the london or greater london area as private is a lot more expensive.
Also I was told today that to get my bottom teeth straightened I would need to also get my top teeth done as bottom teeth align to the top teeth.
Thank you for your time.

How do I clean my fixed brace?

July 19th, 2011
Q.

hello

could you please tell me the correct way to clean a fixed brace? I have had it for about a month now and I am finding it pretty difficult to clean. I understand that problems such as dental and decay can happen because of fixed braces and i really, really don’t want that to happen to me, so what would you say is the best way to clean a fixed brace and what are the best tools for the job?

i really appreciate your time and help doctor

Can I get braces after gum disease?

July 19th, 2011
Q.

I have recently suffered from gum disease but have undergone the correct treatment to sort it out and my dentist has given me the all clear. Do you think i will be a viable candidate for braces? I have a large overbite, which makes me look kinda goofy so I would like to know the best braces for treating this condition. I would like the braces to be a little bit discreet but i don’t mind if they are fixed or removable, as Iam a little self conscious which is my reason for getting braces in the first place.  any advice you could give on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Is there a invisible brace that could fix my teeth?

July 19th, 2011
Q.

Hi

i have really, really horrible teeth and I am at my wits end about what to do about them. I have gaps, twisted teeth, an overbite, you name it i seem to have it and i would really like something to change all that and give me some confidence. I would love a brace to treat my problems but am worried that i would need a really heavy duty metal brace or even a head brace to do it! Can you recommend any braces which are really effective but at the same time no one can see them?

if you could help me with this i would be really, really grateful

Can I still get braces after chipping my tooth?

July 19th, 2011
Q.

Hi doctor

i was all set for getting braces, when i fell and chipped my front tooth. I have had the tooth checked out and had it fixed so its a whole tooth again, but i just wanted to know whether i could still have treatment, as it is my two front teeth that i was mainly going to have sorted out with the braces. The brace i was going to have was a 6 month smile braces, would I still be able to have the brace. It was only a little nick at the bottom of my tooth that was missing.

thank you

How do I stop my teeth from grinding together?

July 19th, 2011
Q.

hello

my back teeth are always grinding together, to the point where i think they are going to just wear each other away. I definitely think it is something to do with my bite and the fact that my top and bottom teeth don’t sit together properly, just like kind of towards the left side more. My question is, can braces fix something like this and if not what would you recommend?

any help you could give would be brilliant

July 11th, 2011
Q.

Hello doctor,

could you please tell me the best course of action for treating a protruding bottom jaw?my bottom teeth protrude over my front by about 1.5 mm and although that doesn’t sound a lot, im sure you know it can make a world of difference to a smile. My top teeth are also slightly crooked, not much but i would also like to treat that if possible?
What would you suggest doctor?

thank you for your time and any advice you can give

Can STb social 6 braces treat back teeth too?

July 11th, 2011
Q.

Dear Dr Hutchison,

I am interested in having the STB social 6 braces treatment but have a few questions.

Firstly, I know the treatment provides rapid movement of the teeth. Is the risk of root resorption increased compared to conventional braces? If so, by how much?
Secondly, I notice from the pictures and case studies that the brackets and wires are placed only on the anterior teeth, leaving the posterior teeth not to be treated. Is it possible to have the posterior teeth altered as well, or is the whole point of the STB social 6 braces to adjust only the anterior teeth?
Can the treatment be successful with partially erupted 3rd molars?
Lastly, once the treatment is complete, do you give a retainer of some sort to ensure that the teeth do not move back into their original position?

I would greatly appreciate it if you could take some time to answer these questions.

Warm Regards,

Dr Ian Hutchinson
