What mouthwash is best when wearing braces?

October 19th, 2011
Q.

My son had fixed braces applied today, and was told to use an alcohol free mouthwash as part of the cleaning routine.
We purchased Corsodyl alcohol free mouthwash, but he’s not sure whether or not it’s appropriate to use.
I have tried looking online for some answers unfortunately with no avail!
All we have found is that it can stain teeth if it’s used regularly,I have suggested diluting it but he refuses to use it until he has conformation!
Please could you shed some light on this matter!
Thank you so much
Thank you

I have suffered a light relapse that is probably my fault is there anything I can do to close the gap?

October 13th, 2011
Q.

Hi,
I am 18 years old and I had a brace around 3 years ago. I didn’t like having it and admittedly I didn’t wear my retainer as often as I should have – though my orthodontist told me I only needed to wear it at night. I now have a gap in the front teeth, which is the only thing that bothers me, but is there any way I can get it sorted? What are my options? Would I have to pay for the treatment, and how much does it cost? Are there any other options that do not include having a fixed brace?
Thanks very much,

Can I have my braces removed/upgraded for linguals and how else can I keep them clean?

October 13th, 2011
Q.

I have braces and have done so for about a year, traditional train tracks which i hate. i assume i cannot have them removed in order to implement a new set of linguals perhaps? thas a long shot but worth the ask whilst im here, secondly. although im doing the best I can in terms of keeping ym teeth clean- brushing behind as normal then going through the wires with the little brushes, i also use the point on the flossets to go round my gum line. but sometimes my patience gets the better of me and i get fed up of it. despite the fact that i will carry on cleaning them i weas wondering tif there was anything i can do when i ahave them removed. if i hav them whitened will they be ok or will i need to leave them for a certain amount of time? i will naturally be at the hygienist as soon as l#have them off but im worried they may be stained as my tetth were always bright white they already seem faded?

I have snapped a wire that’s causing me pain but I’m on holiday! what should I do?

October 13th, 2011
Q.

hi my wires snapped and is now poking out but I’m in Scotland on a family holiday until next Sunday so well over a week before I can get back and see my dentist. is there anything i can do myself it came out yesterday and is scratching the inside of my cheek to ribbons and is irritating the crap out of me. I was about to cut it out but then would the orthodontist be able to get a new wire back in r would she have to take the braces off and put a new set back on when i return? I am 21 you see and I don’t want to have to pay for another set- I understand that alterations and fixing them isn’t an issue but I can’t have them fixed right here right now without taking actions into my own hands.

A bone in my food pulled my wire and may have pulled my tooth, what issues surround pulling wires?

October 13th, 2011
Q.

the other day I went for an Italian with a few friends and have BBQ ribs, one of the bones (which I didnt know was even there!) got caught in my wire and pulled, I could feel this pulling sensation on my tooth straght away but thought it was just a reaction- like poking it or something, but three days later and the pain still has not alleviated- mild as it is. it’s not show stoppingly bad its just that I can feel it and know it doesn’t seem right. what I wanted to know was whether something like this could do any damage. the rib bone got right behind the wire then pried it as I bit. the wire didnt break and im worried its pulled my tooth and set progress back months. If its dome damage how severe would you say this could be without seeing it yourself. cheers

I have ridges on my teeth around my braces, what are they, will they damage my teeth?

October 13th, 2011
Q.

Hello, a few months after having my fixed braces put on i noticed some bumps/ridges on my teeth above or below some of the brackets which look like they’re made of a tooth type material. i have now had them on for around one and a half to two years so i believe they should be coming off fairly soon for which I cannot wait. however, I’m really scared that when my braces come off that i will have noticeable bumps on my teeth or that they are damaged, will this need more treatment?

What is the difference between Invisalign, Invisalign lite, clearstep and simpli5?

October 12th, 2011
Q.

good day Dr, I have a slight overcrowded set of front lower teeth 5 in total I believe. I have been informed of invisalign and have looked at it since. the idea of such treatment appeals to me as I dont then heave to wear a brace and can take it out in order to enjoy the finer things in life. since looking at this technique I decided, ye, i definitely want this before noticing both simpli5, invisalign lite and clearstep. I wanted to know if these did anything anything differently? I only have a minor overlap its nothing crazy that why this technique appealed so much to me. could you show me the differences between these please because if they’re just different providers they surely cannot be producing the same product? cheers

Disappointed with Invu braces that don’t seem too invisible! Feedback?

October 12th, 2011
Q.

I had tooth coloured braces/Invu braces fitted last week, theyre not tooth coloured at all they look like big lumps of mould on my teeth. sure they are ‘sssslightly’ more discreet than metal ones consdering a pigs more discreet than a hippo. is there anything I can do now they’re on? can I have them removed or am i advised to keep them on. I cant work out if im mad or not- sounds dilly but I mean if i had traditional metal ones i would be happy if they looked like this but these are not what i was expecting i think thats the issue. where do i stand in terms of getting a new set or like i said is that it now?
sorry I know this is more of a rant but i dont know if I can get them off and i dont want to walk into the dentist and offend him without first knowing that i can have this kind of thing done, cheers for your time Dr.
