Iam over 18 but can I get braces on NHS?

August 19th, 2011
Q.

Hello there, I am a 21 years old male and am currently on job seekers allowance benefit, I have two teeth in one place, one on top of the other, one is still a baby tooth and the other is an adult tooth. My dentist said if I have the baby tooth removed, the other tooth still might not fall into place and I could be left with a gap, I asked about a brace but she said as I am over 18 I would have to pay over £1000 for the treatment. Could you give me a idea of how much should the treatment cost? Thanks

Should I get implants then braces or the other way around?

August 19th, 2011
Q.

I am a 28 year old male who has two baby teeth (the canines). I need to get the two canine babies pulled and replaced with implants. I also would like to get braces to make my teeth perfect. I was thinking the top would be lingual and the bottom would be regular. This way I would look more aesthetically pleasing and save some money. I also have fairly straight teeth as it is, but my future career is in film and I need to try to look as good as possible. So for my question:
A. What would you recommend for the process of things? Braces then implants, implants then braces?
B. Do you have any recommendations for reducing costs? I am paying off undergrad and soon attending grad school and need to watch the wallet as best I can.
C. What would be the time frame from the first procedure to the last? Would their be a time of awkward toothlessness?

Will my daughter get white spots like me?

August 17th, 2011
Q.

Hello there, JUts a quick question, I had braces about 20years ago and whilst I had them on they caused my teeth to stained badly meaning they were leaving me with white spots on my teeth which has made me self conscious about my smile. Last week our family dentist told me that my daughter needs braces. Is getting white spots still a common problem or does my daughter not have the risk of this? thanks

I am getting a TPA fitted, what braces can I get?

August 12th, 2011
Q.

Hi,

I’m getting braces on the 14th September in Guy’s Hospital. I’m going to have 4 teeth extracted after having my TPA fitted.

I’ve been seen in the orthodontic department in Guy’s Hospital.

My Questions:

I was wondering whether or not I’d be able to find out about the different kinds of braces there are.

Also, which braces would i be able to get under the NHS?

How long do teenagers have a TPA for?

What do you think of my treatment plan?

How long do people have braces for?

Do I have to get traintrack braces, are there any other options?

I have spacing between my teeth and can’t get NHS braces, help?

August 12th, 2011
Q.

Hello my problem is that I have a mild spacing in my teeth, which i personally get paranoid about this because this is affecting my bite which is affecting how I eat. I visited my NHS dental practice to ask for braces and my dentist referred me to a hospital to get braces. Then when I go to the hospital and the inspector that was checking my teeth said that braces would not do the job and the only thing I could do would be to operation or going to a private orthodontics. I was obviously upset because of this and then as i went to my next check up i was told from my dentist that my teeth is not in the category mild and i would be able to get braces. I then was obviously confused the reason why i was told that i could not get braces from one place and then I was told from another person that braces would do the job. Because of this i am now in a situation where i have to pay for my braces and i cannot afford it because I am a student. I desperately would like to ask help from someone to help me with my problem and because of this i can’t go out with my friends or smile on the camera for a family photo and this have seriously been affecting my life for the past 8 years. So please someone help me with this problem and I would really appreciate if someone replied back.

Is my son too short for braces?

August 11th, 2011
Q.

Hello Dr. I have somewhat of a strange question to put to you. My son is 13 years old and our dentist has informed us that he requires braces and referred us to see an orthodontic, however the orthodontist has stated he is too short 4′ 11 and his shoe size is 4. On further discussion they feel straightening the teeth is too early as it will be out of proportion with the rest of his face in later years.
What is your view as we are very confused as our dentist are of the opinion that he requires braces. Thanks for your time and opinion (hopefully).
