I have large protruding teeth at the front of my mouth with a crack, would I be suitable for braces?

October 27th, 2011
Q.

Hi Doc,
I’m 24 and my four front upper teeth are big and protruding forward that when i close my mouth you can slightly see the two front teeth,i mostly avoid taking pictures while smiling since my teeth are big and facing outside, the worst thing i have a big gap between the two front teeth and are stained brown since i was young, of which i dont know the reason for the stain since am the only one in my family with stained two front teeth out of four children.
The two upper front teeth are so sensitive to cold drinks and i detect a crack across one teeth..so my fear is,is it possible i have the straightening braces without my cracked tooth falling down…and if yes for how long will i have them.
Thanks,i will appreciate your help.

I have a gap between my front teeth, am I suitable for Invisalign treatment?

October 27th, 2011
Q.

Dear Dr Sepehrara, I have a gap right in the middle of my front two upper teeth. this one is quite strange as all my teeth (with the exception of these two) are straight, but these two look like curtains if you will, they both angle slightly away from each other which in turn creates this gap. i’d never really noticed for years (sounds daft but this is true) until I decided to do something about it and got in there and had a look myself. I don’t want traditional braces and think that these would be a bit over the top to consider that all they have to do is close one gap not many. what I wanted to know is whether I would be able to get Invisalign to fix this issue? what do you think? for me Invisalign is the better option if it one you see, if it isn’t an option for this kind of orthodontics than what would be the better option? thanks

I’ve been told that a gap between my teeth has appeared as a result of chewing my nails. Is this possible and how can I fix it?

October 27th, 2011
Q.

hi i have a slight gap inbetween my two front teeth, it is slight and only started to appear a few months back- which is still quicker than i thought it could possibly occur! however, ive been told it could be due to the fact that i chew my nails a lot is this true it sounded like nonsense to me. have you ever seen patients where this has been the case? if it is and i stop chewing them will my teeth go back to its original position? didnt think so thats why im on here! would i need a full brace just to close a small gap (approx. 2mm but definitely growing) or is there anything else available to sort out this kind of issue? as you can tell im reluctant to have braces for what right now is a minor issue, on the grand scale of things, so I wanted to know what you recommend?

Why aren’t my braces off after two years of treatment?

October 27th, 2011
Q.

I Have fixed orthadontics systems fitted to both rows of my teeth. I am absolutely hate them and have for the duration of my treatment, I will live though because I know its all about the end result and im happy to wait it out to see this. the problem is that When I had my initial assesment before the braces were actually fitted I was told that my treatment time was predicted to be around 20-24 months to close gaps in my gap teeth. We’ve just passed 24 months and the teeth have not yet closed I wanted to ask you If You knew how long it should take for traditional braces to close a consistent gap of initially about 2mm Id say in the treatment time I’d say its just about halved that gap- which in theory leads me into another two years of braces which isn’t happening no matter what the end result? what are your thought on this situation please I fell like the dentist isn’t taking me seriously.

I have suffered a light relapse that is probably my fault is there anything I can do to close the gap?

October 13th, 2011
Q.

Hi,
I am 18 years old and I had a brace around 3 years ago. I didn’t like having it and admittedly I didn’t wear my retainer as often as I should have – though my orthodontist told me I only needed to wear it at night. I now have a gap in the front teeth, which is the only thing that bothers me, but is there any way I can get it sorted? What are my options? Would I have to pay for the treatment, and how much does it cost? Are there any other options that do not include having a fixed brace?
Thanks very much,

I am booked in to have my braces removed but I’m not sure my teeth are ready?

October 5th, 2011
Q.

I am booked in for the removal of my fixed appliances. I hd a number of teeth removed from the top and know that some gaps are inevitable. There still seems to be a gap between teeth at the front. I have had bands on and the dentist adjusted wires etc on last visit and booked me in for removal. Just worried they might not be coming off. Would my orthodontist require me to have further treatment or go ahead with the removal?

My teeth have began to move after I had brace treatment. Can I get treatment on NHS?

September 21st, 2011
Q.

I have a question regarding my situation.
I was fitted dental braces (traditional wired braces) through the NHS 6-7 years ago, and at the time I was 11-12 years old. I had 2 upper pre-molar teeth removed from each side. After having braces for 2 years, the braces were removed. I was instructed to keep wearing the “clear plastic braces” for 1 year regularly. In fact, I carried on wearing the clear plastic braces for 2-3 more years (to the point the ends started cracking and breaking off). I stopped wearing them, and now, around 2-3 years on, I am worried because my upper teeth are spreading out severely, causing a gap between my front two teeth. My teeth seem to be in worse alignment than they were before the treatment. When I put on the clear plastic braces now, my teeth and my gums hurt so much I cannot bear the pain. I have told my dentist this problem a few years ago, and he made me some new clear plastic braces which do not work as the moulds were taken of my teeth when they were already spreading. I am now 18, and I am wondering whether there are any ways of me receiving treatment (i.e. get braces) through the NHS? Thank you for your time in considering my question, I would appreciate it if you could answer my question.

Can I get invisible braces on the NHS?

July 26th, 2011
Q.

Hey, My teeth are a little gappy and Iav just been told off my dentist that I need to have braces, but I dont really think that my teeth are that band and I really don’t want huge metal ones that are really visible since iam only 14 and dont want to grow up wearing a massive metal brace, is there any others that I can have a invisible brace on the NHS? if not what would they cost to go private? Thanks

How do I get my braces off for my 18th?

July 25th, 2011
Q.

Hello Dr.Patel,
I have had my train track braces on for nearly 3years now, I got them fitted when i was 15 and it’s coming up to my 18th birthday very soon. I ask my orthodontist every time I go to take them off and he just keeps putting it off. It’s really starting to get me down though because I dont want to spend one of the biggest milestones in my life with braces on, I already had to wear them to my prom. My teeth are perfectly straight and Iam getting that fed up that iam getting ready to pull my hair out. Please could you give me some advice?
