November 30th, 2011
Q.

Hello sharon,

Im 14 so most likey braces will be free for me but i’de like to go for the ones that you cant see i think it the ceramic ones, will i have to pay anything?

I failed to wear my retainer after brace treatment and now it doesn’t fit. What should I do?

November 30th, 2011
Q.

HI there,
I had braces for two years and wore my retainer for 4 months after then stupidly didn’t wear it, last night I went to put it on and it fitted fine on the bottom but the top one wouldnt go on, i tried all night to get it on and it did start to go on, I was just wondering if its bad to force it or whether i should continue trying to get it back on?
I suck my thumb at night, not conciously but I wake up with my thumb in my mouth, would i be able to get anything else done, how much would a new retainer cost for the top to keep them in the position they are in now? I had the braces on the NHS. thanks.

I asked for braces then changed my mind after seeing the procedure. Can I change my mind again an have them?

September 27th, 2011
Q.

Hi last year I asked to have braces to sort my teeth out but then after being told about all the pain the procedure will involve and all the injections I would need to have I said no. However now I have had the chance to think about it I have now decided I definitely want braces as I hate my teeth and feel they definitely/finally need sorting out, so you think, If I go and ask I’ll still be able to the have braces fitted. The orthodontist said I was on the borderline of needing them before but I really don’t like my teeth as to me they’re very crooked and I have an overbite which I cannot stand any longer. Thank you,

My nan’s husband has alzheimer’s and has lost my braces. Can i get a new pair on NHS?

September 21st, 2011
Q.

Hello,
When i was 14 i had braces on the NHS. I Am Now 16. When my braces were removed i was given a retainer to wear. I wore the retainer as instructed to.
Although one weekend i went to stay at my nans house with her and her husband (who suffers from alzheimer’s). After taking my retainers out i cleaned them in the bathroom sink and put them on the side while i went and got some food.
When i came back up the stairs, my retainers were gone.
I Asked my nan if she had moved them and straight away she knew that her husband would have moved them as he was the only one upstairs at the time.
We asked him but he could not remember where he put them, and denied ever taking them.
I was wondering would i be able to get Braces again on the NHS as now, i am unable to bite down into food to tear it and my teeth are worse than they was when i was 14!
I am also extremely self concious about my teeth and it has made me unsociable and i feel uncomfortable talking to people face to face when they are able to see my teeth.
Please Help?

My teeth have began to move after I had brace treatment. Can I get treatment on NHS?

September 21st, 2011
Q.

I have a question regarding my situation.
I was fitted dental braces (traditional wired braces) through the NHS 6-7 years ago, and at the time I was 11-12 years old. I had 2 upper pre-molar teeth removed from each side. After having braces for 2 years, the braces were removed. I was instructed to keep wearing the “clear plastic braces” for 1 year regularly. In fact, I carried on wearing the clear plastic braces for 2-3 more years (to the point the ends started cracking and breaking off). I stopped wearing them, and now, around 2-3 years on, I am worried because my upper teeth are spreading out severely, causing a gap between my front two teeth. My teeth seem to be in worse alignment than they were before the treatment. When I put on the clear plastic braces now, my teeth and my gums hurt so much I cannot bear the pain. I have told my dentist this problem a few years ago, and he made me some new clear plastic braces which do not work as the moulds were taken of my teeth when they were already spreading. I am now 18, and I am wondering whether there are any ways of me receiving treatment (i.e. get braces) through the NHS? Thank you for your time in considering my question, I would appreciate it if you could answer my question.

Could I wear a brace just at night?

August 23rd, 2011
Q.

Hello, I had a brace when I was under 18 for about a year but never wore my retainer at night. My dentist says my teeth havent moved back too much but I would like them to be more straight. Its my “vampire” like teeth at the top thats the problem. They stick out. Is there anything you could do? Like a brace I wear just at night or for a few months? Does the price change for shorter period braces? Thanks! =)

Why does my sons jaw make a popping noise?

August 19th, 2011
Q.

My son, who is just turning 16, had braces put on last november, making that a total of 9 months. After a while they had him wear rubber bands, about 2 – 3 months ago, his jaw has been popping near his ear and his has been very uncomfortable. The orthodondist had made him stop wearing the rubber bands, however, the jaw is still popping. Aswell last week, when we went in, the Dr. put on these really uncomfortable “springs”, to try to move the lower jaw forward, to produce an opening so the jaw bone can grow. He said these will be on for 15 weeks! My son is really uncomfortable still and is having real difficulties eating, please give a concerned mother some advise

Iam over 18 but can I get braces on NHS?

August 19th, 2011
Q.

Hello there, I am a 21 years old male and am currently on job seekers allowance benefit, I have two teeth in one place, one on top of the other, one is still a baby tooth and the other is an adult tooth. My dentist said if I have the baby tooth removed, the other tooth still might not fall into place and I could be left with a gap, I asked about a brace but she said as I am over 18 I would have to pay over £1000 for the treatment. Could you give me a idea of how much should the treatment cost? Thanks
