I want Social 6 braces, but am suffering from toothache, is this likely to affect my brace treatment?

November 30th, 2011
Q.

Hi Anoop I have struggled now for a while with terrible toothache. the dentist put a white filling or something in which has since fallen out. no idea what it was. anyway that tooth has been giving me bother for about 2/3 months aching like it has. I don’t know what’s up with it but I want a brace and am worried that this blumming thing is going to hinder the implementation of one. I don’t know what I should do with the tooth. its my third from back on the bottom right hand side of my jaw. what would you recommend in this senario. If I have the social six treatment (as this i believe is all thats necessary with the overlapped teeth being at the front between the canines) this would surely be unaffected and any necessary treatment can be carried out? what are your thoughts DR, Thank you very much

I failed to wear my retainer after brace treatment and now it doesn’t fit. What should I do?

November 30th, 2011
Q.

HI there,
I had braces for two years and wore my retainer for 4 months after then stupidly didn’t wear it, last night I went to put it on and it fitted fine on the bottom but the top one wouldnt go on, i tried all night to get it on and it did start to go on, I was just wondering if its bad to force it or whether i should continue trying to get it back on?
I suck my thumb at night, not conciously but I wake up with my thumb in my mouth, would i be able to get anything else done, how much would a new retainer cost for the top to keep them in the position they are in now? I had the braces on the NHS. thanks.

I have poor oral health, but I am soon to have braces, what can I use to stop tooth decay?

November 28th, 2011
Q.

Im about to have braces but im worried that my oral health is literally just about good enough and not enough to compensate for the obvious dip its about to take when braces are applied. I am going to get everything i can available to clean my teeth with but in a meantime is there anything i can do in terms of concentrating my cleaning habbits to boost my mouths health? and when I get braces is there any particular good way to clean in and around them because otherwise its going to take me like 1 million gozillion minutes to clean my whole mouth. ive always been critical about my oral hygiene it just slipped last year as i moved away for work experince. i will both appreciate and use any information that you can send my way, all the best.

My daughter’s teeth have moved after her retainer was tightened incorrectly, what can she do?

November 28th, 2011
Q.

My daughter has had extensive orthodontic work as a child to straigthen and move her top front teeth. Following this she was fitted with a back of teeth fixed brace. This has been fine until recently when it slackened. She has visited the denitist (not the one who had done the work but same practice) and he tightened it. It appears he has tightened it too much and her teeth have shifted leaving a mm gap between her teethy. This has really upset her she has body image issues and I think in part this has been a dental error. my daughter is employed on a 0 hour contact so work isn’t regular and she only gets mimium wage please can you suggest a way forward

I have mildly crossed teeth, would Invisalign be a good treatment option?

November 28th, 2011
Q.

Hi I am torn between two sets of orthodontic treatments. I have mildly crossed teeth and hadn’t considered them bad enough to warrant having a fixed/traditional brace- bit of overkill? I have since then seen Invisalign and clearstep which I like the look of. either of these would be more suited to me, as as I mentioned my teeth are not ‘that’ bad. I always had reservations about these types of treatments though- I don’t know why i just find myself thinking i’ll end up trying it and being told this doesn’t work for you- get a traditional brace! however before this I spotted the Demon bracen which was tooth coloured/clear couldn’t make my mind up what colour it is was. but this was nearly invisible at a quick glance and looked as though it would perform like a traditional brace I.e: tried and tested. in straightening slightly crooked teeth what would you recommend of the two? or are they even good choices.. thank you.

Can I have my teeth whitened after having my braces off?

November 28th, 2011
Q.

hello I am due to have my braces off in a few weeks (mid November) but despite the fact I have done everything I can do whilst wearing braces to stop them discolouring I’m pretty sure they have done just that. there’s still around three weeks of treatment to follow this point and therefore they wont get any cleaner. Can I have tooth whitening treatment after braces as part of the procedure or will I have to pay for that separately? If I have to pay for it what is the best methods and how much does it cost approximately? Im not a big fan of buying them from the supermarket you see as not only do I think they wont be good enough but that I wont be good enough to apply them well enough im very sceptical about products like them. I also don’t want to have it done at a tanning/beauty salon for the same reason.

I have an overbite I wish to fix for my wedding in May, is this possible?

November 28th, 2011
Q.

Hello Dr Patel,

I have a slight overbite (according to dentists but I think it’s huge) plus teeth that are not straight, especially my front teeth. I’m getting married next year May and was wondering if there is enough time to fix my teeth by orthodontic treatment.

The problem I have is cosmetic but affects my smile and confidence. I have heard about the Inman Aligner but it only fixes bottom teeth. I’m really conscious about having a great smile for the big day and want to know if there is enough time to fix them.

Thank you

Why has my dentist put blocks on my back teeth?

November 28th, 2011
Q.

I just got bottom braces yesterday(metal with coloured bits on the teeth) after getting top ones 6 weeks ago. I have got blocks on my back teeth made of the glue. They are so uncomfortable and i can’t close my jaw, when will i be able to get rid of them? Its to stop my top teeth touching my bottom teeth brace. Are they any other options? How long till they stop aching on the bottom? Thank you very much. (Its blue glue) Hope that u can answer this soon. DO you think that i could get it removed soon?
