I’ve just had braces and my teeth hurt. Is this normal, how long will it last and when do I clean my teeth?

September 14th, 2011
Q.

I have just had braces put on my teeth and for the first 3hours i felt no pain but after I ate and cleaned my teeth i was in agony. I only had them put on today and am really worried that they will hurt like this for the next two years. How long is it normal for it to hurt for? and do i really need to clean my teeth after every time that I eat? Also what can I do to get rid of the pain? Thanks any advice is great

My parents want me to have braces but I don’t think my teeth are that bad! Are braces better than the alternatives?

September 14th, 2011
Q.

Personally I don’t think that my teeth are in such a bad condition. I have a slight over bite and 2 teeth are crooked, however my parents are convinced they want me get braces fitted privately to fix this. I really don’t want traditional braces I always thought they were a bit, shall we say loud, I’ve been online as well as asking around- done a little bit of research, and found invisalign teen, would this be much dearer than traditional braces? do they work better? in your opinion what are the best braces or does it vary from person to person?

All that I have been told it that its like a metal plate that goes under my mouth, and it will make space for when i get my fixed braces(train tracks) put on. please do you think you could give me some information on what to actually expect and what exactly is being done to me? thanks for your time

My over-the-top dentist says I have the start of gum disease. Wouldn’t braces make it worse?

September 14th, 2011
Q.

hello, my dentist said i have the start of gum disease but hasnt done anything about it, they dont bleed when i brush or floss only sometimes like when im ill or when im due on my period, im also on the contreceptive pill which could also be why i have red gums. Also I have always had quite dark gums since being in primary school im 18 now. Well im due at the othodontist next week and was wondering wouldnt having braces make it worse? They didnt suspect any gum disease when they checked my mouth, im just very worried. My dentist sometimes is a little over the top

I have crooked teeth but at 18 must I have braces?

September 14th, 2011
Q.

Hey doc, I was just wondering, my teeth are really quite crooked and some overlap slightly. I am 18years old and as such don’t really want to be wearing metal braces for the next 3 years. Do you think it would it be possible to get fixed braces now to sort out my overlapping and then switch to invisalign to generally straighten my teeth out afterwards? or is this not possible/ maybe not practical? thanks for any help you can give as i really do not fancy having braces until I am 21!!!

Can I get braces even through my front teeth are dead?

September 5th, 2011
Q.

I am an adult, 24 years old and I would like to have Braces to straighten my teeth. My two front upper teeth are broken since I was 8 years and I have not done anything to them , they look arched from the ends. My dentist examines them and says they are dead as I could not feel the cold piece of cotton only on those two teeth. The questions are:
Would the braces cause my front teeth to fall or any problem?
What are the problems and could they be solved easily?
Will I need root canal treatments?
Would you advise me to leave my teeth as they are ok ?
Thank you
