I’ve been referred to have my wisdom teeth out, i also have an under bite that i want sorting out, what are my options?

October 12th, 2012
Q.

I have been referred to have wisdom teeth out as the lower left is on the jawbone. I asked my dentist a year ago about this as I was concerned my teeth would move and would affect how straight they were. I also have an underbite and my bottom front teeth have been moving since the wisdom teeth started to come through- now these have moved forward making the underbite more noticeable again. For a few years now I was at an edge to edge bite for the front teeth but this is now changing. Just wondering what my options are as I am 23 now but am really not happy with my teeth. I am really conscious of the underbite, more so now that my bottom teeth have moved, I know I can have an operation on the jaw but want to avoid that? Thanks

I have a really bad overbite but have been quoted very expensive prices for the work, is there anything else you can suggest?

October 5th, 2012
Q.

I am 24 years old and have had a bad overbite since I was a child due to sucking my thumb; I was never offered orthodontic treatment by my dentist when I was younger. Since turning 18 I have been to several dentists as I hate the appearance of my teeth. I originally requested veneers and paid over £1000 to get the imprints done. After this was done I was told that veneers would not be suitable as my overbite would need to be corrected first and I would need to get a brace. The dentist actually said it was the worst overbite she had ever seen. I have had quotes for a ‘Daemon’ brace as my job is client facing and a metal brace wouldn’t look very appropriate and have been quoted around £4000 for the treatment. My wisdom teeth have also come through and my teeth are very overcrowded and the front teeth seemed to have moved sideways and overlap. I can’t afford this. Is there anything you could suggest? Many thanks.

I’ve had my brace off for 4 years but my teeth still keep moving, is there a treatment to stop this?

October 5th, 2012
Q.

Hi, im 16 and have had my traintrack braces off for around 4 years now, i started off wearing a clear retainer everynight once i had my brace off but due to them not being strong enough i now wear a wire pallet brace everynight. I have to wear my retainer around every 2-3 hours or my teeth start to move even though its been 4 years since i had my traintracks off, I wondered if there was any treatment to stop this as ive consulted my orthodontist alot and she doesnt seem to solve the matter. Also i feel my teeth are still ‘buck’ and my 2 front teeth are larger than my other teeth, i also wondered if there was any treatment to correct this and make them the same shape and size as my other teeth so they are less noticable as my top lip does not cover them.

Missing lateral incisors leaving big gaps either side of my mouth, what are my options?

September 24th, 2012
Q.

Hi there Anoop wondering if you could help me out – I have missing lateral incisors therefore leaving gaps either side of my front teeth. My dentist advised that i get a brace to push them together closing the gaps then get crowns fitted, the brace is a bit expensive for me and i can’t see my credit history allowing treatment on finance. I was wondering if there was a cheaper option? He said bonding treatments were not an option due to the shape and position of the teeth. Please tell me there is light at the end of a dark low confidence tunnel. Look forward to hearing from you!

My front teeth point outwards and it really gets me down, could i have them extracted and replaces with a fixed bridge?

September 24th, 2012
Q.

I’m 22 and my 2 upper front teeth point out forward quite allot and it really gets me down and i have lost a lot of confidence in myself.i dont want braces and i would not be able to afford them anyway and was wondering if its possible to have them extracted and replaced with a fixed bridge?? and how much would the whole treatment cost if that was possible and also if you could recommend somewhere where i could have it done and how long it would be before i could have it done. i have never had cosmetic dentistry before so i don’t really know much about it .Thanks!

I am concerned about the brace removal process, will it hurt? Also do you recommend a fixed or removable retainer?

September 24th, 2012
Q.

Dear Dr Patel, I currently have six months smile braces on and they are due for removal in a few weeks. I am just concerned about the removal process will this hurt? are they pliered / pulled off? will it damage my teeth or leave marks. Also do you recommend a fixed retainer or a removable one? with a fixed retainer is it still ok and easy to floss? will there be any initial movement ? Thank you for your help.

My gums bulge after having braces, is there something that can be done to correct this?

September 24th, 2012
Q.

Hi, I just want to ask what can be done with my gums because the roots of my teeth bulge after having my braces. I look totally different now because the roots of my teeth became like an anchor that made me look like an ape. Also my lower lip is more forward. I don’t know why it turns out that way when i thought having braces would enhance my face profile. Is there something that can be done to correct all of these? Please kindly give me an advice, Hope you can help! Thank you.

My front teeth stick out and my bottom teeth are crammed together, will a brace sort this out?

September 24th, 2012
Q.

My two front teeth kinda stick out and I think its cause I used to suck on my thumb when I was young. My teeth aren’t horrible but my front teeth kinda bother me. They arnt crooked they are just in front of the other teeth and aren’t aligned in the same how they should be. Also my bottom teeth are crammed together so I was wondering if braces would fix my front teeth and bottom. If braces can’t fix my front teeth is there any other way I can get them to look better? Also on one of my front tooth I had chipped so I got if fixed and a little piece is fake can I still get braces? If I can get braces how long would you think I need them for?

Is Dental bonding good for filling gaps on my four front teeth or is a brace the better option?

August 30th, 2012
Q.

Is Dental bonding good for filling medium gaps on four front teeth? What is the best dental bonding material? I considered veneers but the dentist said that dental bonding would be more suitable for my bite as veneers might break or chip off. I would like minimal preparation to my teeth. What about braces? Is there any type of brace that is suitable? My teeth are healthy and straight but have medium gaps to the four upper front teeth. Could cerec material be used for filling the gaps. Could this be done with minimal preparation of teeth so that it could be reversed if required.

My teeth are very weak, but i would like a brace to straighten my teeth, will i be able to get one with a history of weak teeth?

August 30th, 2012
Q.

Anoop can i have your advice please. I am 30 years old and when i was young i had a few problems with my teeth, they are weak and break quite often when i eat hard things or bash my mouth in sports. I have had a few teeth crowned and that has strengthened them slightly. I would like to get a brace, which one i am not sure. I just wanted to know if dentists would say yes or no to me for having a brace with my history of weak teeth? I don’t want to put too much pressure on them so maybe do it very slowly? Also is there some kind of way i get get strong teeth? i try and drink milk with calcium but it hasn’t worked yet?
