Can Six Month Smiles straighten my crooked, gapped teeth?

November 17th, 2011
Q.

Helo Dr Anoop. Ihave looked both at your profile and your website ad can see that one of your specialities is the six month smile treatment. I would like to know more about the six month smile treatment if this is possible. I have gaps in my teeth- these are not big and I think they will be smaller if my other crooked teeth are pulled back into shape, I will also need tooth whitening treatment as no matter ho much I brush my right upper canine it will not come white and is a slightly different shade to the rest of my teeth. based on this limited information how much do you think treatment will cost and so you think there will be any other implications that I will need to be aware of when looking into having this treatment?

I have oral thrush because of my asthma, am I still able to get braces?

November 17th, 2011
Q.

Hi Dr Anoop,
I am a long term asthma sufferer and have always been dependant on two inhalers a reliever and a preventer. this combined with my apparent over zealous use of mouthwash lead to me contracting oral thrush. I was given miconazole mouth gel for two weeks to get rid of it as I can’t have the drops? anyway it’s been gone now for perhaps just over a month, I was wondering whether this would affect me getting braces or potentially lead to it coming back? the mouth gel was horrible and I hated having it. If i did contract it again- as im still dependant on an inhaler (just one combined one now though), would I be able to have the gel or would the brace not allow me to o so for any reason? for your additional information I would point out that I would be getting full tooth coloured traditional braces, if that makes any kind of difference, thanks Anoop.

Having moved from Liverpool to London would it be possible to change orthodontists during treatment?

November 16th, 2011
Q.

Right now Dr I have a serious problem that I need help with urgently. Me and my parents have just moved from liverpool to London for my dads work. However I have braces on but I got them put on privately and my orthodontist is based back in liverpool. Is it possible to just get another orthodontist to take over and remove them as well as make me a retainer to use afterwards? And finally what is the average cost I am looking at to do all this? Sorry, How long do you think this would take as I believe I am ready to have my braces off right now?

The implants I received after brace treatment are stained what can I do?

November 16th, 2011
Q.

hi I have a query about my implants. 4/5 years ago I had my braces taken off and had two implants in place of my lower left side central and lateral incisors afterwards. The issue is that’s I’d just about got the teeth cleaned when I noticed the implants have now been stained and the rest of my teeth haven’t. I try to clean them as much as I can but I was wondering does the fact that they’re not bone means I can use something other than toothpaste on them. They really stand out because they’re offset to the rest of my teeth (to the centre) and in order to cover it I end up with a lop sided smile which looks just as bad. If there isn’t anything to clean them with would it be possible to get a replacement set or would this cost a lot of money? what would you recommend? thanks

How long do patients have to wear retainers after braces?

November 16th, 2011
Q.

my grandson has just been given braces and- ive no doubt this is his fault for not listening properly 🙂 but he is now worried stiff about having to wear a retainer afterwards, i never knew this myself and as such haven’t been able to advise him, how long will he be advised to wear the retainer he thinks he will have to wear it all his life! ive assured him this is not the case to calm him but im not sure myself- bit cruel on my part if he does now! also for further reassurance will the retainer exude as much pressure as the brace as hes moaned his brace felling tight- I thought it would ease off/or he’d get used it either way. please could you advise on how long patients usually have to wear braces and retainers more importantly for? thank you

What is the best orthodontic appliance for crooked teeth?

November 16th, 2011
Q.

hi,
what would you say is the best brace to have in order to straighten teeth that are crooked.? I have looked at various options and like the look of the inman aligners as they are quick and very discreet but have the drawback of the cost along with the other option that I liked in the damon braces, I basically do not want traditional braces and was wondering what the obvious alternative is. would it simply be linguals? how much compared to traditional sets do linguals cost? I have looked also at the Damon brace which is regarded as being quick. basically for crooked teeth what would be your top three solutions in alternatives to old fixed braces?

How do I get the glue off my teeth after braces without damaging my enamel?

November 16th, 2011
Q.

If I have braces what will happen to the surface of my teeth? Im due to have braces and have subsequently been refered to the orthodontists for an appointment to begin planning the next steps, could you please tell me what I should expect to be put through as in the steps he will recommend, I’m quite worried/nervous you see and the appointment not until another three weeks which is too long to not know? secondly and as for my initial question on what will happen to the surface of my teeth I wanted to know what happens with regards to fixing the braces in place? will I have countless months after the braces treatment ha finished and they’ve been taken off having to scrub glue off my teeth and therefore taking the enamel right down? cheers for you time Dr Maini.

What is therapeutic diagnosis?

November 16th, 2011
Q.

Hi Sharon, I have been researching into braces an have seen something called therapeutic diagnosis- or something along the lines of this. basically it talks about not having to take a tooth out when having a brace (just incase that’s not what its called, my apologies if it is I do not mean to patronise you, it is me that needs your help!) it made me think about whhy, I remember a few years ago my mate having a brace removed and moaning that her face looked different- I didnt think so, so I dont know. what is this method and why does it exist? it is possible to alter ones face when having a brace? seems a little over the top to me but as I am considering getting a brace (which I have been apparently doing for too long now) I would just like to know. cheers

Do I have to have a tooth extracted?

November 11th, 2011
Q.

hello DarSh, I have got to have braces, it something I have looked at doing for a long time. however my dentist thinks I need to have a tooth removed, I cant remember which one but to me he seemed to be going through the motions in a sense and i felt as though that’s just what he does and got the feeling he has done this before sort of thing. I have only had one tooth extracted before and I hated it- not a fan of needles for a start! my dads freidn who is also a dentist says its possible to have a brace and not have teeth removed and thinks that I may fit that bill. he also said if it could be avoided it’s better? I dont know who’s opinion to go with and a third option is now necessary. I know you can’t look at my teeth but what is your take on tooth extraction before the implementation of braces? thank you for any help you can give me
