What should I avoid eating and drinking when wearing Lingual braces?

December 16th, 2011
Q.

How do, I’m 40 and have just had a Lingual BRACE to close the gaps I have between MY teeth. I’d like to say they are a cracking job and although right now i talk like a wallop (im told this will go) I think they’re brilliant I didn’t know they could do thing’s like this with braces. I have a good social life, one of the main reasons I opted for the lingual over the traditional brace and wondered if there would be any issue that could arise with these brace things that could affect this pal? Am I OK to go out on the lash on weekends or does the brace forbode me from doing so (beer on the braces?) beer aside is there any other foods or drinks that I cannot have not just the obvious sticky ones or whatever but acidic types? could you please shed some light on situation, cheers boss

How safe is it having orthodontics abroad?

December 14th, 2011
Q.

I have been thinking about getting braces but cannot afford the lingual ones I want in the UK. What is the status on having orthodontics abroad now because I figure a lot of dentist go abroad to train and join groups etc. yet you so often hear horror stories about receiving treatment abroad. is it simply that people sill dont trust foreign clinics or is there a genuine concern with going abroad. if you can save money in the process then how can it be a bad thing? Im not saying this is what im doing and not listening to anything else, im trying to find out what’s best and consulting people in the know like yourself. what would you recommend on the subject?

How do Lingual braces actually work?

December 12th, 2011
Q.

Can you tell me how the lingual braces are actually attached to the teeth and if you wouldn’t mind I would like some detail on this. This is the part of the treatment that really scares me. I don’t mind the thought of wearing braces for a long time as long as I’m getting what I pay for but I’m not all that comfortable with hands routing around my mouth and all the wires and any pain. Please tell me if till be all good!

I don’t know whether to have STb lingual braces or Incognito, which do think is the better brace?

December 2nd, 2011
Q.

Hi Sharon straight in there then, Is it possible to change orthodontic courses during treatment? I am in the run up to getting a brace and have my heart set on a lingual brace behind my teeth but I am not sure which. all the examples I have seen have been STb so I assume that theyre good/common which tends to be the sqame thing but i prefere the look of the incognito, If I was to get the STB but found it to intrusive would I be able to get it removed then have the other one put on? is there a particular thing that would stop me or is it just frowned upon in general? tah

I have an overbite, how effective and discreet are Lingual braces for this condition?

November 30th, 2011
Q.

Hi. I have a slight open-bite, genetic, and also I was a thumb sucker when I was very little, and wore a brace when I was a young teenager. I also have slight over-crowding in my top and bottom teeth which I would really like tidying up, and am in my 40s.
What do you suggest, and can you help? I like the look of the lingual orthodontic as it seems much more discreet. Do you offer 3D pictures to give me an idea as to what my teeth could look like?

What are the most discreet braces available today?

November 30th, 2011
Q.

Hello ADam. I have heard good things about Harley Streets work and as such wasted no time in contacting you when I learned you were part of this team. I am thinking about getting a brace but want it to be as discreet as possible. based on your knowledge in this field and experience what would you say is the best/most discreet brace. I’m not bothered about speed so long as my teeth are straight and as few people as possible can tell orthodontic treatment is taking place in the interim, I work in an office and regularly called out for meetings and presentations so discretion is key for me. Any information you can give would be of massivle help. I live not far away in whitechapel so getting across wouldn’t be an issue but I am a little nervous with dental suits so the best think for me to do is to be clued up first. then come when its necessary. thank

I don’t want traditional braces, but will I have to pay for lingual braces?

November 11th, 2011
Q.

Hi Sharon, I have a query about lingual braces. I really want them as I cannot stand the classic braces. I am 15 and the dentist is trying to get me to have the old ones, which I think I’d rather leave my teeth being crooked than have! as I am under 18 and/or 16- whatever the maximum age to get traintracks for free is do you think I will have to pay for lingual ones? or will I perhaps get like a discount or something as Im still in school…secondly is if I get them will they be a lot harder to clean? I have seen the incognito and the STB types and surely the incognito is easier to clean? could you help me on hese matters please, thank you

What treatment should I seek for my gapped and protruding teeth?

November 8th, 2011
Q.

HI Dr THORNE. I have issues with y teeth and don’t know whether or not braces would be able to sort them out? the two front top teeth are gapped and have beeb for as long as I can remember the dentist had hoped that they would close when I grew as a child but they never did. the two teeth either side however seem to start protruding from the gum at their own line higher than that of the rest of my gum line, they are no use in terms of chewing die to the position they keep. by and large the rest of my teeth are fine and sound but these four will require I think extensive work to make them comply so to speak. what would be your course of action at this point to give me some idea as to what mine should be from now.

I have gaps and a few other minor problems, how much would a brace cost for me?

October 27th, 2011
Q.

hi ian,

i am 27 years old and am considering having a brace fitted to straighten my front four top teeth its mainly needed to close gaps however the outside left of the four is slightly twisted, facing inwards, and the middle two are ever so slightly sticking out, and would need bringing back. i know its difficult to give an estimate without seeing them but, i was hoping you could give me a rough idea of the sort of price it might cost me.

many thanks.

How frequently will I need to visit my dentist once my braces are fitted?

October 27th, 2011
Q.

Hello, I saw an offer on Groupon to have Invisible STb Lingual Braces on either your top or lower teeth for £975 (inc. retainer). However, in the next few months, I will be travelling on and off. Can you please let me know how frequently I would need to have appointments once the braces are fitted – and is it a big problem if I am away for, say a month, and can’t have the appointment during that time. Any other advice you have would be appreciated too. Thank you. Louise
