My son sucks his thumb often, what implications can this have?

October 19th, 2011
Q.

MY son sucks lis thumb a lot and constantly has his fingers in his mouth, now as a toddler its expected i know this but the wife keeps trying to give him a dummy which im quite sure he’d love but I wont let im near it- this has caused many debates as you can imagine. im worried that if he keeps sucking his thumb as his teeth are coming through and both he and his face are growing they will grow to be in a strange position leaving like an open gap where his mouths used to his thumb being there. will this or will this not increase the likleyhood of him needing braces when he’s older and does it leave any further damage (indeed if it leaves any) to the rest of his mouth?

Disappointed with Invu braces that don’t seem too invisible! Feedback?

October 12th, 2011
Q.

I had tooth coloured braces/Invu braces fitted last week, theyre not tooth coloured at all they look like big lumps of mould on my teeth. sure they are ‘sssslightly’ more discreet than metal ones consdering a pigs more discreet than a hippo. is there anything I can do now they’re on? can I have them removed or am i advised to keep them on. I cant work out if im mad or not- sounds dilly but I mean if i had traditional metal ones i would be happy if they looked like this but these are not what i was expecting i think thats the issue. where do i stand in terms of getting a new set or like i said is that it now?
sorry I know this is more of a rant but i dont know if I can get them off and i dont want to walk into the dentist and offend him without first knowing that i can have this kind of thing done, cheers for your time Dr.

What’s the best tooth correction system if I want to go travelling?

October 12th, 2011
Q.

If I have a brace fitted will I still be able to go on holiday. my question is more how long is it between having alterations made to the brace to tighten alter them or however it goes? I was planning on going travelling around Asia for 2/3 months now I have braces im wondering If that is still possible or whether I will just have to go a t a later date? what I was thinking is that If I can get Invisalign treatment although it is a fair bit more expensive, could I get a couple of retainers at once then bang them in every so often as required as this would then not stop me from travelling or having my teeth sorted out. if this is not the best option as im sensing its not being as I think its so simple which usually means thats not the case, what alternatives do I have as in which Is the quickest brace to sort out crooked teeth and which had the longest intervals between adjustments?

I like the look of Incognito lingual braces. Would you say these are the best type of cosmetic brace?

October 7th, 2011
Q.

Ive looked at lingual braces as I dont want the normal ones. ive seen that there are issues with patients who take these treatment having problems with their speech and diets. Ive looked at the incognito type and correct me in thinking this but being the design it is it looked like doesn’t extrude off the teeth as much as the social 6 fiitment type if this is the case then surely speech will be affected less and quicker to get over? is this the case? also how long- abouts does this type of treatment take to straighten teeth? wuold you say this was the best option for cosmetic type braces when it comes to straightening crooked teeth or is there a better method, for example which would be the quickest, which one os most practical? im looking to have them done you see and if im paying out for the best treatment I need the better methods.

What are the different types of braces as I don’t want train tracks?

September 28th, 2011
Q.

im looking to get braces to fix my crooked teeth and will consult this with my dentist over the next week or two there is no way getting tradition ones. I was wanted to know which you think is the best braces taking everything into account, budget, duration of treatment, aesthetics, comfort as well as final result to sort out overlapping teeth (bottom mainly but its started in the top arch now)? i like the look of the inmans but ive heard theyre expensive but they are also meant tot be quick arent they? also the social 6 brace looks good but i was wondering whether the back teeth would need to move to help prevent crowding in order to give the front room to move or do they push the back ones out? i dont know enough could you help and advise please i want to turn up at the dentist with some knowledge?

Can a crown affect the result of a brace?

September 28th, 2011
Q.

Hi,

I have a crown on one of my top back teeth also a small replaced chip on one of the front teeth. Would that pose a problem? I am concerned that the crown may be put under too much pressure or may be compramised, the crown is a year old.

The replaced chip at the front is a small area at the bottom left of the right front tooth.

How long would the braces be in for? The teeth are not that badly unaligned. I have one wisdom tooth fully out at the back left of the top and one out a little bit at the back right. I also have two fillings in the two teeth next to the front two. Where ard the braces fixed?

I’ve been told that I need braces. I don’t know what kind or what other braces exist?

September 27th, 2011
Q.

I have been told what has no been inevitable to me for a while and that is that i need braces. I haven’t been told or been through with my dentist what type when he told me he simply said I had the choice between metal or white? One issue is that I have suffered from dental phobia for many years, anyway I have decided to move dentist top try and solve the problem, however a new issue has now arisen, I need to be at a dentist I can trust one who I know will be able to do what I want perfectly. my teeth are crooked most protrude at angles on the top row so i was thinking do I have to have ‘braces’ (by that I assume he meant traditional ones) or do any other brace types suit this kind of case? secondly how do i know if the dentist is a good one? understand that i cant walk in “are you a member of the International Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry” “no” then walk out? what should i look out for?

At 29 i go to a lot of big meetings and don’t want to be sat trying to nail a deal when im slavering everywhere and looking like a teenager (bit over the top but you see what i mean) ive seen these six month smiles and everything advertised but I honestly don’t know which is best? my teeth aren’t crazy overlapped just slightly- what are thoughts and recommendations? thanks very much
